OOPDAT! Alright, the map is now finished. It's gone through a bunch of tests and has been tweaked and improved to the point where it has been deemed finished. Thanks to all of the testers! I'm not gonna go too in-depth with the post since I talk all about the map in the video. "Skydock" (Competitive) - YouTube Also, one flag tutorial: "One Flag CTF" - Competitive Forge Tutorial - YouTube Original Post Hey guys, one of the things I wanted to start doing again in Halo 4 was making the occasional 4v4 map. Given my love of Cargo Port (the theme, not the gameplay), I wanted to try something in the same vein. So, I made Skydock. If Cargo Port was Blood Gultch and Exchange was Coagulation, this is Valhalla (except that the DMR doesn't epicly break it). The layout has some similarities, but is overall quite different, with much better routes to traverse the map, and with powerful positions which are countered by long lines of sight into them. The map plays/will play Slayer, One Flag CTF, Dominion, Extraction, Flood, KOTH, Oddball, Regicide, and of course Omar the Spaceman. Enjoy dudes! "Skydock" map Preview - YouTube
This looks good You are shaming me in conservative piece usage, too.. and it looks good... EDIT: What's Omar the Spaceman?
Omar is just this guy, you know? Anyways, Omar the Spaceman is slayer with hammers and infinite Jetpack, created by Stevo and Duck on the original Cargo Port as a game to embody silliness and shenanigans. Whoever is winning also must ritualistically be yelled at for having host.
**** you Shoe, you and your ****ing host. I'm a big fan of the atmosphere of the map. The giant walls and the overhang are really epic and imposing.
Is this map up for download? I found the other 2 maps in your fileshare and downloaded them but did not see one named Skydock. Unless one of them was Skydock but was named something else. I haven't checked them both out yet.
This map looks really good! The theme is easily recognisable and you've done a good job of making everything flow smoothly, given the layout of the map. I'd definitely like to get some games on this if I can ever manage to find time to join a customs lobby, as it looks like you've taken gameplay well into consideration. One question, though. In the video you were using the BR - does the DMR break this map because it's relatively open and there are long sightlines everywhere?
I wouldn't design a map that could just be broken by a starting weapon. The DMR is certainly an asset on here, but the other precision weapons have their advantages as well. I use a BR on every map out of sheer personal preference, but I'll run AR/Magnum on here with jetpack from time to time and not feel at all disadvantaged. The DMR is going to allow players to engage more effectively at longer ranges, but it has its drawbacks on here, just as it should on every map. Also, no the map is not up for download at this time.
The tests we had a few nights ago were great. 1 Flag is playing better than before, and it seems that the flag is taking a large variety of paths. The crane pull was pretty awesome too. I really like the face off for the Rail gun at the start of the game. Red team can get it first but if they just rush it blue can take them down before they take a shot. Overall this has been a great map, I've enjoyed every game we've played and it's turned out to be very versatile in terms of how you can play it and what you can ply on it. Unfortunately because the teams were unbalanced the map needs more segmentation. Because that makes sense. Great job Dok!
Thanks Shoe. For everyone who hasn't noticed the update to the OP, the map is now finished. It was a lot of fun to test, and I appreciate all of the help I got from you guys. Hope you all enjoy! "Skydock" (Competitive) - YouTube May Omar be with you!
