Hey there! So back in Halo 3 the first map I made on sandbox was a remake of the last section of the mission sierra 117 (where you save Johnson at the dam). It was a good idea, but after I looked back at it it was very poorly executed. My skills for replicating improved a lot and I decided to go back and do it right. As I built I realized how well this particular section of the campaign could play competitively. The map will be for 4v4-6v6 Slayer and Capture the Flag. The map is in the touching up and testing stages, and If you want to play it send a friend request to Ph33no. An overview of the actual part of the mission. Spoiler
That actually looks pretty friggen tight, Though i would have lowered it more into the water, and put it up against a natrual wall.
I attempted to recreate this once but gave up for reasons i forgot. Anyway this looks really awesome and very accurate to the original play space its based off. Great work, will be looking out for this one.
Damn, you beat me to it, but this looks great. It looks like all of the action would be directed towards the main bridge though. Are you going to make a connection between the broken bridge somehow?
Cheeze: Yeah by the time i realized it was to high it was too late and I wasn't starting over. And I couldn't find a good enough natural wary to build on. Basketskate: No, I intend to keep it on a linear path with emphasis on long LOS's, crossfire combat, and CQC.
Can you jump from one end of the bridge to the other? I would also suggest to lower the map a bit, it is not that much extra work.
Looks very cool - I like the architecture. Bits of it remind me slightly of my own map Hivemind, which was partly modeled after dams (though not that specific one) - I did the slightly-angled coliseum walls as well and initially had walkway covers set against them like you do (but unfortunately had to remove them for framerate reasons... damn you, Bungie!). I agree with the guys above that lowering the map would make it look better. It would probably only take you an hour or two at most. I've had to do it before - it's a pain, but probably worth the effort. And doing it once will train you to measure in the future (I know it did for me!).
Looks like pretty solid forging there. Nice work. Love campaign inspired maps. Can't wait to see this released.
Hey there everyone! I looked into lowering the map. It most likely won't happen. The natural geometry around it simply won't allow for the map to be lowered any more than about 10 degrees down (which makes no significant difference). My apologies.
Looks fantastic! How does it work in terms of frame rate? I'm always cautious when I see a lot of blocks, it would be a shame if this had frame rate issues. Nevertheless I look forward to it's release.
No frame rate issues thus far! The most complex section of the map is the building off to the right. I will be posting an ad in the testers guild for some feedback before I post it.
