There was already a debate about this, but it was more, "Which is better?"

So here's the question: Should the United States of America switch to the metric system, or continue using the Imperial system

Also, state how we should integrate it. GOGOGOGO

Metric. Implementation: force all schools to teach the metric system to children, produce mass quantities of dopamine, and then inject said dopamine into people's brains whenever they use the metric system correctly in a social environment.

I think metric is a much better system, but we can't just implement it all at once. We need to slowly bring it into everyday use- start out by teaching both measuring systems to kids in school. Over time, once much of the population has already been taught these new measurements, begin to implement them to various everyday uses until they are used for everything.

America already tried to convert to metric and it didn't quite work out. I believe almost all schools teach metric. The only thing I don't like about metric is that there isn't really a common measurement that is used that is similar to feet. Personally, the imperial system is a bit more complicated in math, but visually it's easier to understand for me.

After I die, they can do that. I don't wanna have to learn none of that **** when the one I've learned already works perfectly damn well.

It's not that complicated... especially if you've worked with weight in bud.

no one wants to switch, the world is already acustomed to what we have now, plus its not that hard to convert.

    1 inch = 2.54 centameters
    1 mile = 1609 meters

Seeing how some people can't even remember to wipe their own ass, do you honestly think they will be able to remember 1 ounce = 28 grams?

The Imperial system is obsolete. America should assimilate for once.

You added an extra word into that sentence. To be true, it should read: America is the whole world.

Why would you want to swap from the perfectly sensible system where 12 of something (12 in) equals one of something (1 ft), which three of equals one of something (1 yd), and 1,760 of equals another (1 mile)?

In all seriousness, I absolutely hate the Imperial system and how the American Engineering System of Units uses it. Fahrenheit and Rankine are silly, as are Btu and lbm, lbw, psia, psi, etc.

I think we should move to metric but there are some problems:

-Highway signs all across America in MPH.
-Older generation doesn't know about metrics.
-All food companies in America would have to change measurements on packages
-Already standard whole number figures would change to decimals a lot. (football field 100yards= ???.?? Meters)
-And tons of other problems that will come along.

It would be good but it's just to hard to. You would have to change basically the measurements of everything in America. Good idea, to hard to implement.

In the UK we tend to use metric day-to-day, but our road signs are in MPH. It works out fine. Making the switch takes several generations to filter through, but I definitely think it's worth doing.

I believe you may have overlooked the number 10

Still, I know where you're coming from. When talking about someone's height, it's a little blunt to use metres. In Europe they quote height in centimetres, for example 5'11" is 180 cm. Does the job (with more accuracy, too) - just got to get used to it.

The U.S just does this stuff to be different. Look at the road system, Currency...

I like the Imperial System, but mostly because I know it more then the Metric system.
