This is only my second post, and my second map . Serenity is a symmetrical competitive map inspired by Sanctuary. I like the idea of a two sniper map, and I hate Solace in a competitive setting, so I built this with some elements of Sanctuary. I built it on Ravine, as I hate the pieces on Ravine the least. I call this "Serenity" because I was stressed due to life when I made it, and I see forge as therapeutic. So I was "Serene" when I made it. Serenity is focused on 3 Flag and Slayer. It is set up for KotH and Oddball, but I prefer CTF because it is an oblong map. It was made for 4v4's, It would probably be too small for anything over 5v5 tho. I prefer to use DLESEL's Competitive Gametypes on my maps, so keep in mind I built this map based around those variants. DLESEL's gametypes currently have 110% movement speed, but I made sure most of these jumps work with 100% movement speed if you don't like his variants... And finally, the Map. Images: Spoiler This is a top down view to help you understand the layout. As you can tell by the colors, the map is split through the rock sections. This is a view of Blue Base. You can see the sniper hut to the left. This is a view from Blue Base. In the picture, the carbine is on the left, and you can see the Red sniper hut behind that. Top Middle is also seen here. This is a view from the Blue Carbine into the Blue rock section. You can also see the Red sniper hut. The middle building is seen from the Blue rock section in this picture. The tip of the Blue Carbine is seen on the far right. You can also see the Sticky Detonator in bottom mid. Description: Spoiler As stated before, Serenity is an oblong map inspired by Sanctuary. I loved how CTF ran on MLG Sanctuary in Halo: Reach, which caused me to make this. There are two sides, Red and Blue, each with a Sniper hut, and a rock section. The map is built on a 45 degree angle, so it might be difficult to distinguish the halfway point at first. The top-down picture helps with that. When you spawn in either base, to the left is the Carbine-esque platform, which leads to top mid. To the right is the sniper hut. Straight ahead is mid, of course. I call the platform on rock side "carbine" because most people are familiar with the carbine callout from Asylum/Sanctuary. You can sit on the "carbine" if there are enemies invading your rocks. You can use two of the rocks to jump to the enemy sniper hut. A boltshot spawns on the end of the carbine platform every minute. The sniper hut is the key to this map. It is the highest point on the map on both sides, and allows you to survey the enemy rocks, and you can see the enemy sniper hut too. Of course, snipers spawn every two minutes on each hut. The enemy sniper hut is also very important to hold when trying to pull the flag, just like in Sanctuary. The middle building has two levels. The lowered bottom level has a Sticky detonator that spawns every two mintues. The Oddball spawns here if you play that gametype. There is glass on bottom middle that blocks you from each sniper hut, so you can only use it to travel from carbine to carbine. Bottom mid is very useful to pull a quick flag run. Top Middle has a small centerpiece, which slightly obstructs your view from hut to hut, along with some pillars on the hut themselves. I used terminal wires to make the center piece along with columns. The wires are risky to shoot through, because they may block some of your bullets. I wish I could download and play this, alas I have not gotten halo 4 yet. But it seems like the sniper is in a reallllly good spot and may be over powering; does it have low clip or am I assuming wrong? I just really like your bases too, I just do.
I actually haven't looked into how many clips it has due to not being able to edit that in Ordnance. If it is 2 spare clips, I'll have to move the spawn time to 180 seconds instead of 120. And if the Sniper is too powerful in that location, I can move it closer to the base. Maybe to the ledge below the hut seen in picture 2. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
wanted to post that I haven't played it but just looking at the pictures it looks like a good design. one suggestion I have is that the "Strut" pieces laid sideways look strange by themselves. Maybe duplicate them and place them back to back facing opposite ways. Like your technique of using the Dish pieces to make rooves. looks like it would be fun to play.
I kinda put the struts in last minute. It was too empty without them, so I just put them for a little cover. I might take that suggestion and lower them a little. And I'm glad you like my "rooves" lol
at 1st glance I thought it looked good. and by looking more closely, there are some details which just look wrong, like you kinda rushed the making of your map. also those rocks look totally out of place.
I had the rock sections planned out in my mind, but unfortunately there are different rock pieces on Ravine than on Impact/Reach's Forge. If you could point out some of the details that don't fit I'll try to fix them when I update it.
