We're gonna need a bigger boat. Or... probably not.

    Download Sea Cow

    Map Haiku

    Too much alcohol
    on, the majestic sea cow...
    This is what you get.

    Gametype Support

-Sea Cow supports all gametypes except Race and Invasion Slayer
-During Invasion, the map consists of the boat and grassy approach
-During other gametypes, the map consists of only the boat.

    Recommended Gametypes

Invasion - 8-12 players - The first capture is pretty easy unless defense REALLY coordinates
    Team Slayer - 6-12 players
    1 Flag - 6-12 players
    1 Bomb 6-12 players
    KotH - 6-12 players

    Overview

Welcome, everybody, to the Sea Cow. I'd bore you with a story about how some forerunner folks got drunk on a ship long ago and crashed into Blood Gulch, but I think the haiku sums it up pretty succinctly. Basically, with this map, I wanted to see if I could pull off a map which shifts wildly from invasion to more standard gametypes. I also decided to hake things hard on myself and offset every single piece by 5°. This map does have a higher learning curve to it, so familiarize yourself with the layout if you want to win. Getting between the top and belly of the ship can be tough. Just remember, there are several ways up and down.

-2 staircases on the bow of the ship
-2 staircases in either mid level back room to stern
-1 ramp out of the central room to stern
-1 large ramp down from the very back of the ship
-2 lifts that send you through a spiral and down to rocket spawn

As far as invasion is concerned, I planned this out with a Territories, Territories, CTF layout in mind, which means default everything. In phase 1, the elites attack the two launcher platforms. In phase 2, they attack a generator in the bow of the ship (just past the rocks) and a generator in the back of the ship. There is no way into the ship's belly until phase 3, where the elites must grab a core from the center of the ship and carry it back to their base.

    Weapon Loadout

Rocket Launcher - Central, On the platform beneath the central engine lifts
Sniper Rifle - Stern, above the water, below the catwalks
Sword - Bow, at the front of the engine
Grenade Launcher - Stern, mid level, centerl
Concussion Rifle - Bow, Below decks, top level
Plasma Launcher - Invasion only, left launcher, phase 2
Focus Rifle - Invasion only, right launcher, phase 2
DMR's - Kind of all over

Banshee - Invasion only, attacker base, phase 2

Like all things in the Halo universe, this beast is powered by blue magic.

    Lifts

Use these to make a quick escape to the other side of the ship. The two in the center send you to rocket spawn (and unsuspecting victims) below decks.

    Defender's Base

In most gametypes, defenders will spawn up top to the stern of the ship.

Like all big ships, this one hit an iceberg... made of granite.

You can just barely see the rockets at the top of this image and sniper at the bottom.

    Invasion Phase 1
    [IMG]
This is where you start off as the elites in invasion.

    The Launchers
    [IMG]
After phase 1, you can use these cannons to boost onto the ship. Or you can just mosey through the gaping holes in the hull. Your choice.

    Stern Generator
    [IMG]
This is one of the places you attack in phase 2.

    Teleporters
    [IMG]
These teleporters have been coded with human DNA, which means only they can use them to travel between the two phase 2 objectives.

    Escape!

Expose this giant roll of future-film to enough sunlight and you will have won the Invasion!

    Final Thoughts

This has definitely been a fun one to work on. Thanks to all the people who helped me test, even when they had their own stuff to be working on. I am forever in your debt.

I'd love to hear any feedback you folks have on the map... particularly if I screwed something up. Let me know, ladies and gentlemen! Unless I messed up my nautical terms in this post. I'm from Montana and live in Colorado, so I don't care.

    I'm on a boat!

Loltacular truth. Great map, looks hella fun. Especially love the graniteberg. Does it play with Infection? And do you have a recommended invasion gametype?

    Thanks, guys.

It does, indeed, play infection. However, I haven't done any real testing with the map, so it's sort of my best guess at workable safe-havens and spawns.

For invasion, you should just use the default invasion gametype. If you're playing with people who are new to the map, you may want to turn the round time down (or otherwise make defense easier), as it's a little tough to coordinate a good defense on this map until you know your way around.

Somebody also noted to me that the engine lift doesn't work properly in forge. And that's because there's a piece spawned in that is only there in the first 2 rounds of invasion. Keep that in mind.

Wow, Rick, your maps always amaze. Utah mambo was a classic, Now we have this.
I love how you got invasion in there as well.

Thanks, man. Glad you enjoyed it.

I don't recommend doing this in most maps, though. There were a lot of extra building materials that were kind of wasted in invasion. Also, I had to double up on my kill-zones (one team and one FFA), which amounted to a lot of extra items to keep the invasion part blocked off for regular games.

Anybody found any horrible errors or omissions on my part on this map yet?

i didn't know this got posted.
i enjoyed this map a lot when we tested. not as much as i've enjoyed your other btb maps though,
but this one is still awesome and maintains the "feel" that all your maps seem to have.

the only minor gripes i had with the map i think are mainly due to it being my first time playing on it:
i at first did not notice the hull entrance, also felt it first stage was a little tough,
felt it was a bit too far to make it with the core, etc
but i know that after playing on the map more often, i'd adapt and learn and not have those issues any longer.

The ship is definitely a tough beast to attack, but its very gratifying when you do succeed.
The aesthetic value of the ship is immense, and launching onto the deck from the mancannons gives a really epic feel.
you did a good job making the engine look enginey.
This was definitely one of the more fun custom Invasion maps that ive played so far.

I recommend to people to give it a shot.
Also, i thought your half-circle lift things on the blue magic engine were genius,
and its nice how taking them poses a slight risk since you take a very minor amount of damage
    from the launch.

    hilarious post as well.
    nice job man

    5 degrees

Haven't gotten a game on this yet, but I did a thorough walkthrough. It has a very unique interior, but still feels solidly like a ship. The slight angle of the ship really gives life to the shipwrecked vessel feel. Nice work on the 5 degree angle. That must have made things fairly labor intensive.

The granite iceberg looks really nice and goes even further to enhance the map's theme. It's really large. Hopefully I'll be in a party large enough to play it sometime.

    Great forge.
