    Sandy Slopes v2
    Rocket Race

Since recently joining up with WARR and playing more Rocket Race, I decided to do something I had long thought about: make an improved version of Sandy Slopes. I wanted to make checkpoints more accessible instead of just having two ways to get to each one (without boosting).

    v1 info

    Changes from v1:
-Two hill branches added to the big hill
-Two more ramps added to each bridge destination
    -Added a checkpoint
-Removed obelisks from former "gutter" destination, moved meet with branch at "low sand"
-Counter-merged a Huge Block into the "blue hill" to replace a poorly geo-merged block
-Moved lights at bridge destinations under the go-to point, similar to colored hills
-Closed off area under bridge destinations
-Added a Bubble Shield at spawns (throw if Mongoose flips to protect from accidental rockets)

For some reason, I never thought about adding two more branches to the top hill. But when it finally popped into my head, I immediately started working on the v2. Sandy Slopes v2 has twice as many ways to get to the bridge and hill destinations. The two extra hill branches allow direct routes to the top mid destination and provide a jump down to the colored hill checkpoints, and the extra ramps at the colored bridges are pretty self-explanatory. Like the original, Sandy Slopes v2 is very boost friendly. Since several destinations are hills, you often can't tell if someone else is coming from the other side, so boosting is quite valuable. On to the pics:

Thanks for checking out my map. I hope you enjoy it.

Why can't people read the rules?
anyway, I was a big fan of V1, so naturally, I will need to update. I have one main problem with this RR track however, I can never win... It seems as though only the people who work together a lot on RR can win, as they know when to boost, where to drive, shortcuts, etc. If it was more noob friendly, it would probably get many more downloads.
What you've upgraded so far is great, and I may have a chance to win now, but I would suggest to keep making it easier.

Well, that is the case with any RR map. You could always do some races by yourself to familiarize yourself with the checkpoint locations, and even do so with a partner to learn how and where to boost. Also, using the callouts is very helpful in-game since the waypoint isn't very specific if the checkpoint is behind you. Let your driver know where it is since you can look around. Also, use the radar. The checkpoints show up on it.

I would say this map is more "noob friendly" than most. There are plenty of objects obstructing LOS, and there are limited paths to the checkpoint, so you have a better chance of hitting people with rockets. The lasers are blocked, so you don't have to worry about them killing you if you overshoot a boost. Having said that, I wouldn't want to make the map any easier. I think it has a good balance of competitiveness, luck, and chaos. So, I would like to think everyone has a fair shot at winning. Maybe you're just getting unlucky. =p And, like I said, practice on your own. Being able to quickly identify the checkpoint location is a huge part of RR, especially with this map. The faster you recognize the checkpoint, the faster you can plot the quickest route to it.

seems like im not the only person who misses rocket race, lol

besides that, great map. looks like it would play better than anything else for RR, and i absolutely love how smooth the ramps are.

    definitely got my dl

Rogue, I'm thrilled you've joined up with our band of rocket racers! Your style of forging is a breath of fresh air for WARR, and Sandy Slopes should be a great addition to our sandbox collection. Thanks for your dedication to forge and halo3, keep up the great work!! See ya on the battle field

This really makes me wish Rocket Race was a regular matchmaking playlist.
I actually like how the paths require that the driver actually think about the path to a destination instead of simply driving in that general direction.

Even though this map has a simple design, it still works. 9/10.

Its hard to give advice to someone who has been making race maps longer than i have. But i will say this , I think you should add some aesthetic structures to make it more attention getting other than that Its a perfect RR map.

Very good map. Good idea about the boosting, that always ruined my games when some guy flew across sandtrap to beat me!!! Are the gaurdians turned off or not???

It seems like those columns in the center of the map would get in the way, but other than that, the map looks smooth. :)

Aesthetics would block LOS more, and there are already a lot of objects doing that. I guess I could add objects around the perimeter or in the sky, but that's just not my style. I go for the clean look. My maps are designed to look good without aesthetics.

Yeah, boosting is really useful in Rocket Race. Yes, the guardians are blocked.

The columns are there to cover up the overlap from the wedges.
