"Into the crypt the spartans go... What do they find there?" The answer is, "Retaliation." After many bloody battles, even though the Spartans had been conditioned for it, the horror and gore of them drove some Spartans insane. Now, they exist in the crypt and hunt those Spartans who are still sane, who have found their way into this wretched place. Can you survive the crypt? Or will you be infected? This map was inspired by a variant a buddy of mine thought of, although then the idea was to build a base in the corner of the crypt. After a failed attempt or two, we stopped trying to build the map. The main issues being 1) the corners of the Crypt in Sandbox are not square to the floor, and 2) working with another person with those corners gets irritating. "DO IT A-F***ing-GAIN!", etc. Working alone, the idea changed to building an Armory/Open Base in the middle of the crypt. Once more, it changed to what you see now, a Y-Shaped base extending from the middle of the Crypt to an outer wall. After a good 10 hours of forging, I emerged with this map. The game play (in theory, I haven't been able to play test it) revolves around the "Sane" Spartans (Defenders) trying to reach and hold the Armory, which has several avenues of entrance (three for the Attackers, Five for the Defenders). However, while the "Insane" Spartans (Infected/Attackers) only have only half the strength of the Defenders, there are only two strong weapons and a few grenades in this would-be Armory. For a time, the AR and BR are the only good weapons the Defenders have. Though, the Attackers have low health, so stealth will become necessary for the lone Infector to infect his first target. Stealth is made easier and harder by the absence of every player's trusty radar, but smart Defenders travelling in groups will make this more difficult. Thus, the integration of vision effects. Not only do they provide an atmosphere for the map, but they give the Infected the cover of darkness by which to move. The main areas the Defenders will be worried about are lit, however. Yet, the most powerful weapons on the map are placed just into the Darkness, the Laser, Rockets, Gravity Hammer, Flamethrower, and Sword are placed far from the safety of the Armory in the courtyard of the Infected, in a small building near the Infector's spawn, in the tunnel which the teleporter exits, in the courtyard of darkness just past where the mancannon drops you, and in the courtyard near the gravlift into the Armory shrouded in darkness, respectively. The idea of placing so many power weapons on the map is to tempt players to leave the Armory to retrieve these weapons. This gives the Infector or the Infected a chance to catch one of the Defenders outside of the Armory. Smart Infected players will spread out across the dark corners of the crypt, because a kill by a Defender is only worth 1 point, while a kill by an Infected is worth 5. This makes the Defenders even more careful about their movement. Yet, no matter how long they hide, the Infected will get them.
