What I'm trying to achieve: I need to block off a room in The Pit with an object, but in such a way it can be removed with a little effort. I define "little" as: - Not a Crate (requires too much effort to move, e.g concentrated rockets or 'nades) - Not a Locker (too little effort required - these can be melee'd out the way) - Crate, Single* / Roadblock (perfect! - can be moved easily enough with rockets or 'nades) The issue I'm getting: I stand a couple of Roadblocks on their end so they are vertical, set min / max to the same and respawn to 10. When I blow these blighters up they very rarely all respawn - some remain laying down, some in pieces, etc. I'm guessing that perhaps this is down to the fact that the rubble of one block is supporting another, thus making them both active and not available to respawn? If anyone can confirm this, that would be great! *Crate, Single is not available in The Pit which is why I'm not using them
I think that a good way to do this would be to place a barrier on instant respawn. Now place a fusion coil just behind it and a weapon holder floating just above it. On the floating weapon holder carefully center and place another barrier. Now set everything to instant respawn except the fusion coil. When a player shoots the wall from the non fusion coil side through the little hole in it, the wall will fall down for a few seconds.
With the barriers they won't literally instantly respawn, but it will be pretty fast, allowing some time for the player to get past the wall they destroyed.
Ten seconds is pretty fast, and the whole thing will come back, also the fusion coil can sometimes the bottom barrier, causing it to come back almost instantly.
Thanks AZN FTW - this is what I was suspecting and you've helped clarify it. Also, thanks Gravedigger5454 - your idea is great but not quite what I'm looking for. In fact, I don't think I can do exactly what I want
Weapon Holder + Gravity Lift is my idea. It will force players to destroy the gravity lifts in order to get past via a well-placed grenade or a good amount of weapons fire, about the same delay. Set the Gravity Lifts to 10 second respawn for a 10 second gap for players to move through the doorway. You could alternatively use Pallets (if The Pit supports them) paired with a weapon holders or teleporters to hold them in place. Each pallet takes two melee hits to destroy, so you can stack two to make the delay larger. 1 grenade will destroy all the pallets.
Now this idea I do like - I want the barricade to respawn after a time period so this may do the job nicely! I'll let you know how I get on - got another map to finish first but will hopefully get cracking on this over the weekend!
I was just thinking of the pallet idea myself, that should work the best for this because once they're hit, their respawn starts and they look like an actual wall.
So they work differently to barricades? My only concern about using pallets is that they can be moved very easily. Although they take 2 hits to break, 1 hit can move them. /ponders...
The pallets must be carefully secured with in floating teleporters to ensure they're always exactly where you want them, and then yes, they'll work differently, in fact they should work perfectly for what it sounds like your trying to do.
Yeah... later while I was busy with official things (if I told you I would have to kill you), I figured out the grav lift idea, but figure that there aren't enough to go around. Coming back the topic this morning I had just thought of Pallets, cuz cottage and sqork used to use them all of the time for their maps. I can't believe I didn't think of it before. Good call Grave and Nerf. I'm glad there are others that know what they are doing to help when I'm busy... I've noticed Grave and myself are in like every help topic... lol we know what we are doing mechanic wise. Grave work on your map aesthetics and such and maybe you can come back to being a guilder (I don't know how the rest of the guilders feel about it, but Its good to go by me).
