Remake Reach Out

    Hi everyone! Short time user, first time poster. :p


    Some of you might turn around as soon as you understand that this is another Lockout/Blackout remake, but please, stay with me for a little while. I must admit though that I feel a bit ashamed to post yet another remake, but since I don’t have anything to loose what the heck.


    My goal was not to make an exact replica of Lockout/Blackout, but instead take the best from both worlds and mix them together with some of my own ideas to create a worthy successor of the old classics while still keeping it as simple and visual appealing as possible.


    Approximately 1 week after the release of Halo: Reach when I had played through the campaign and spent some time steamrolling in matchmaking (until everyone got to their actual trueskill) I started to craft my first serious map in Forge. A remake, mostly because it’s easier to recreate something than creating something totally new, and of course because there was no Lockout/Blackout map in the original map list. I also needed to learn how to use Forge 2.0 in a good way. At the end of the 2:nd week after release I was done with the basic geometry, but I’m also a bit of a perfectionist and I didn’t like the end result so I deleted it and started all over again.


    After a while I realized that creating an exact replica of Lockout would be near impossible because of the limitation of the objects you have to work with (until I saw Ash55’s version on Tempest today), so I decided to take a shortcut and use my own personal touch on different things here and there without making it feel too non-Lockout. Since then I have been polishing it, sometimes for hour and sometimes for just a couple of minutes. The size of the map turned out to be more along the way of Blackout, probably since I have played that map more.
    So, here it is at last, my own interpretation of Lockout and Blackout in one map: Reach Out!

    I have a version 1.1 ready which has some minor visual changes and an added jump from BR2 to BR3 via the antenna, plus some other small tweaks. I am going to wait for some feedback before I release it in case I need to adjust something else. Also, the only frame rate problem I have found has to do with the window in the middle and the one down in the sword room. Nothing major though, but if it annoys you feel free to replace them with regular 2x2 walls.


    Also, thanks to II MAKY II, knghtwhosaysni7 and many others whose maps have given me some tips for my own version.


    Keep it simple, keep it clean.
