Well, I enjoy race tracks as much as the next guy but they seem to be getting boring. I have a few ideas to make them wayyyy more exciting. I will be taking you back to the old days, N64. Remember Mario Kart 64 where in races there was tracks with secret passage ways that lead you further ahead into the map. I purpose to bring this back. Remember the beach level where you could go off that jump and make it into a tunnel and come out at the end of the track. That was what made it competitive. Or San Francisco Rush 2049 I remember had things like this. I loved playing these games just for this reason. I will be posting a few ways that you could do this stuff soon, hopefully creating new ideas from you guys. I am terrible at making race maps unlike some of you out there so if you could create some race tracks like this it would be awesome!
He doesn't mean cheat. He means competitive shortcuts. Now if there was only a way to give you a power up that makes you go faster on the mongoose, so you could make a shortcut that you couldn't reach without the power up (The jump on the Mario Kart beach map was like that if I remember correctly).
This isn't cheating in any form. I am talking shortcuts like WetBeaver said. Hard to get to but help a bunch. Wow, now wouldn't that be awesome. If that ever occured or someone found a way to make that it would help my idea plenty! I have a jump right now that is near impossible to jump into the little hole. There is only one way to do it so far and it is challenging.
you can't make boosts that are usable at the player's command, but you can point mancannons so that they boost mongees at the correct trajectory... Also, shield doors angled like a jump can make vevicles jump waaay up in the air.
This is starting to sound really cool, just know I'm gonna hit the lightning bolt when you're midjump so you shrink, spin out, and don't make it. You could arrange powerups in groups of 4 along the track like the item pickups in Kart.
You could use mancannons except for that they give you a constant speed which will cause you to almost automatically make the jump. The shields may help however, haven't tried to much which them much. Yes, I am not saying I will be making a map of my own however. I am trying to give my idea to someone else who is much better at making race tracks than me. I will go get a picture of what I have. Edit: Here they are. Here you can either try the jump on the right or turn to the left and continue on with your course. This is a picture of me not making the jump. This happens about 9/10 which are the odds you want for a shortcut. A successful jump. It is ONLY POSSIBLE for the front TWO wheels to make the jump. If you keep holding forward you can drive up. (This makes it more challenging.)
How much of a shortcut is it, though? Do the other racers make a U-turn almost immediately after they choose not to take the shortcut, and end up where the shortcut lets out before the guy who took the shortcut even gets there? (I imagine driving up a wall might take quite a bit of time.)
I would say this jump would occur at 5% of the way through the map. You would probably come back into at approx. 50% of the map. Which is pretty hefty if you want to get ahead of the others. *Once again, this is part of a race track that I was making, but it sucks so it is not like I am coming out with a map or anything some time soon. I am just trying to help give others ideas for racing.
What I want to see people do, is pretty much take the concept of Double Dash, and apply it to Halo 3. I want to see people using equipment, weapons and using it Mario Kart style, not just racing.
Try making a regular jump, but raise 1 piece of the jump ( i would have made it out of bridges ) so that if you hit that you get more distance / height and land on a special shortcut that is raised or something Alot of games have this, different sized jumps to help you make it to different areas. Also you should try a bumpy area, that would be kool lol.
Matty, I download a lot of race tracks to see if any of them are good and I haven't really found a track that has shortcuts. If you can find one can you send me the link?
I've been thinking about that as well, the problem is to enable the players to pick up equipment and such during the race. The only thing I can think of is that after each lap you're forced to leave your vehicle and can pick up weapons and equipment.
This idea is in fact insightful. Wow, this could change racing maps as we know them. I personally think it would be awesome to see some of the ideas from Mario Kart, and my personal favorite Crash Team Racing, implemented into race tracks. The funnest race tracks aren't the ones that are a mile long and have 1 million 90º turns, but the ones that offer some sort of competition, (like what was mentioned earlier.) I hope a ton of people read this topic, because I would love to see this idea implemented into actual playable material. That'd be awesome! Congratulations Cr0ok3d, you just made the best-sounding racing idea I've heard since this game began.
Shields Doors anyone? I don't the details of how it would work but it would involve shield door. [Maybe] like theres a wall of shield doors and theres a pit w/ fusion coils and everyone sends their goose in the pit to destroy it then the gooses respawn on the other side of the shield wall. [/maybe] All the afore mentioned ideas are totally awesome. I usually don't dl racetracks but if they had Mario Kart-ish jumps and shortcuts...I would dl everyone like that.
why dont all the guilders get to get to gether and buil the sweetest race map ever. if ppl built some realy goo race maps race woul become realy realy popular maybe more popukar than infection.
Another possible shortcut would be to make a wall of fusion coils, so that if you drive through it too fast (or slow?) it would blow up and put you back to start, or you could get through and there is a shortcut. Sorry if this was already posted, I didn't read the whole thread.
Yeah sounds like an alright idea but i dont know about it i'd have to try a map with it first to see if i liked it.,.?
Wow, thank you. This was a response I was looking for. (Not the part thanking me). I think More Easy sees what I am going for a here. This has potential. If you made them high enough and you drove to fast they could blow you up instantly. If you drove too slow you could knock the top off triggering the others. Another Idea I was thinking of was shield doors being laid down horizontally with a small gap big enough for a mongoose. You would go off a jump and either land on the other side of the jump on the landing, hit the shield doors and bounce up, or make it through the hole which takes you some where else.
