What music is allowed on youtube videos? I know that most music on videos is not owned by the video creator. Can anyone help?
Only the music that is not copyrighted. Unless of course you get permission to use copyrighted music.
Nicksternator tells the truth, but if you are just making a montage or something of the sort, you should be safe with anything that isn't on a major label. For example, most bands won't do anything because they see you as advertising their music, but pop and rap songs that are popular will be taken off most likely.
After having many videos muted due to copyright claims, I'd figure I would look more into what I can actually use for music. So since I take it that you need help with your question I thought I could help. I have received two personal messages on Youtube from musicians that they are allowing me to use their song in my video. One of the the messages even said if it gets muted by Youtube they will back me up with the license. If you are interested they are found below. One is a Trance song and one is kind of a slow paced rock song. If you would like to see the messages, please just leave me a message on my profile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMg4KQLyZzc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbIINX1EKow
I know any song liscned under UMG (Universal Music Group) is allowed on youtube, but they get staticics to your video, plus they are allowed to cover that page with their ads. In short some copyrighted groups do the same as UMG, and some are stingey about it, and make youtube remove your audio.
"Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use." put this in the description of the video, and it would be technically against the law for them to take down/ mute your video
I find it annoying that music can't be on YouTube videos. When I found a song on a YouTube video I liked, I bought it.
I would assume so, hence the fact that both these songs are already on Youtube. I wouldn't see a problem with using them, like I said if you wanted to see the personal messages that were sent to me on Youtube I wouldn't mind letting you see it. That way there is at least two songs that you know that you can get away with, without copyright claims popping up. Also, another way to get music that is probably not going to get you involved in copyright claims is using Indie music. By asking indie bands if you can use their music in your videos is a win/win outcome if they allow it. They get their music advertised and you don't have to worry about copyright claims. Usually Youtube doesn't mind so much when it comes to Indie music. If you click the spoiler tag there is a list of bands who have made something under the WMG label. Spoiler AC/DC Against Me!
