You see it in the news, you see it in the streets, what do YOU think about protests? I think that unless it causes property Damage, No one should be arrested, in fact, then first amendment states that you can have Freedom of speech, so why do the government not allow it? Discuss. thanx murdoch
Many times peaceful protests can turn into riots due to the use of Mob Psychology, which means the if a couple people start saying or doing something a couple more people will join in and then a couple more and before you know it a protest is a angry mob. The governement is merely trying to stop these riots from occuring before they start.
I feel that most anything is tolerable in moderation. That is, one's eating habits, drinking, smoking, and even something like protesting, should be handled delicately. I think of Westboro Baptist Church when I hear the word, "protest." For those who don't know, this particular family runs a "church" that exemplifies what I consider to be sloppy living excellently. They protest the wrong things in the wrong places. True, it is my belief that homosexuality is not an ethical lifestyle, but never would I flaunt that opinion at the funeral of an American soldier. So, I believe we should definitely be allowed the Freedom of Assembly, but I wish, sometimes, that people would have a bit of common sense before demonstrating their rights.
What the.... What does that even mean? I think that a lot of the times, protests don't help anything. It's the wrong sort of approach. It's like instead of working for a solution, lets just not work and walk around with signs. That's just most the time though. I'm not saying there aren't times when protests are appropriate. But I mean even as useless as it is most the time, it is a given right. So I wouldn't say take it away. Just let idiots use it.
Erm... the government is against it because it ends in property damage 99% of the time. It's like the law about not giving a 2 year old a gun. There's a chance nothing would happen, and a good chance something will.
That is a violation of Freedom of Speech. If someone thinks that something is worth protesting, they should have that right to protest. If it turns violent, the police are there for a reason. People may get injured but unless it was planned to be a violent protest, nobody will really have any harmfu weapons. Protest is very effective. You're just looking in the wrong places. For example, the US was born in protest, modern day Ireland and modern day France are all born in protest. Those 3 countries are some of the richest too. We could also look in other places. Black rights and Womens rights were born in protest. Protest will always work. Unless the cause is stupid, protest will always work. Or let's put are tin hats and say that the Government doesn't like protest as they make the country ineffiecient when people protest. Protest, wether violent or peacful, should always be allowed. It's up to the government wether the protest will be peaceful or not.
I see both ways freedom of speech yes but... i would say more than 80% of the time protest can quickly turn to riots and its better to nip it in the butt before it nips u.... so if they stood and watched things would get out of hand and be uncontrolable... its better they end it when they still can... but thats just my opinion
Where are you getting these violent protest thing from? If protests get violent, there probably is a reason! Maybe the government doesn't like the idea of the change? Stopping a protest is essentially ilegal, depending on where you live. If the government stops it, well, that country better have a very good police force if it continues.
Any time you have a large gathering of people in a emotionally charged atmosphere, there will be the potential for it to get out of hand. That does not mean those situations should be prohibited. If that were the case then every sporting event, and a lot of concerts (metal) should be "nipped" before they get out of hand because the potential for violence in those situations. The right to assemble, and freedom of speech are defended in our constitution because the founders of our country recognized that public protest had the power to influence political decision making, and the new society that they had envisioned was to be governed by the people. If you look at other nations, public protests are the balancing force between the power of the government and the power of the people. Public protests have brought about reform in labor laws, public health care, even small things like guaranteed 4 weeks of paid vacation in places like France. Dont let the government fool you into thinking that if they forcefully end a protest, that they are doing you a favor and protecting you. Protesting is a right, and it is vital.
