I cannot tolerate my own behavior anymore. I cannot stand my obsession with luxury, with money, with whatever the "high life" is. I want to stop. I need to stop. I will stop. All I want now is some sense of equality and morality in the world. I'm afraid that some people use religion as the great equalizer, but that doesn't cut it for me. I'm a fool for wishing this because I know it doesn't work, but I wish that we could have communism that works. But not everyone works as hard as everyone else. I guess socialism is the closest thing that is possible. Or at least some refined version of capitalism.
Start with a budget, say $500 a month (that's food, gas, and other, excluding housing/rent and coach-rate airfare to and from home) and see if following your habits helps.
I only spend $300 a month or less on all that stuff... Well the meal plan at my school accounts for most of my food.
The per meal plans are ripoffs but we've got plans where you can get $275 or $495 a semester of tax free funds only for food, I had the $275 one.
I've got about $1000 in meal points for the quarter, which is about three months ($333.33 per month). The food is way overpriced in Benson (our lone dining hall), but it is just so damn convenient and there is a disconnect between meal points and dollars despite the 1:1 ratio. The thing is that I'm not actually so much concerned about money, but the want. I want to own an expensive car, I want to own a high rise condominium in downtown San Francisco, I want to live the "high life," but I know that money can be used differently. I don't want to want things.
Give me the money so that you can work hard to earn your money and that desire will intesify to the point where you realize that the desire is a good thing.
Anybody here familiar with Java programming? Coming from mainly Python and Visual Basic (and some functional programming experimentation), it's obviously different but I have a few questions... PM if you know quite a bit about making it efficient so I can add you on Skype or something. Not just the fundamentals, although I do have a few questions about some things like logging. I know it's a long shot but hit me up if you don't mind enlightening a brotha.
