My High School had an unofficial system which received an "academy status." You were assigned to an academy your freshman year without any knowledge of anything. Once you chose that academy, you had to fulfill the number of academy classes required so if you were interested in something else, it wasn't really worth changing after the first year. I was assigned to the Arts Academy but I hate pretty much everything about a formal art education. Luckily, I completed all of my required "art classes" early on and got to take some programming classes (something I didn't know I would be interested in). That was all in public school too. They only did it because they received more money for having an "academy status." It would be better if you chose a direction your sophomore year in my opinion. **** art.
