"Skrillex pushes play on his MacBook" -Wikipedia Does the fact that hey doesn't mix his music live detract from the show. You are there to be around people who like him too and to dance. Then again if I went to see Metric and all they did was lip sync and pretend to play I would feel cheated.
There's not much to do (for Skrillex), he's a DJ, just like any other DJ really. He does mix, and even uses stems to build some parts of his set but if you were expecting him to emulate all of his "wonky" sounds live, then I guess you'll be disappointed. The most he can do is play around with a MIDI controller the whole time, like Madeon if you've seen his Pop Culture video. I'm sure he does it on a less impressive scale -- especially since he has a hard on for beat repeating. I'm not defending the guy, but if I were in the same position, it would appear as if I was only "pressing play" because my setup is primarily software. Maybe it's because people think it's "too easy." I **** up all the time though and I'm sure he has too... There's still room for error so I don't get where all that negativity towards the "performance" side is coming from. If you want to see a cool light show, go. From what I heard, all of the money he earns, goes right back into the show (more or less). If you don't like his music, don't go. If you don't like people, don't go. If you don't like loud music, I'd also advise not going.
