Luckily for everyone, this abandoned Forerunner nuclear plant is so up to code, that one can safely engage in a deadly gunfight on the premises without fear of causing a critical core meltdown. Based on my earlier map Power Play with the structures moved closer to each other and totally redone catwalks, Power Struggle is a large FFA map based around a nuclear power plant. What separates Power Struggle from the plethora of other power plant maps is that it is designed to include all the major components of an actual nuclear power plant. This took some research, as it is very difficult to find schematics of real life nuclear power plants (for obvious reasons). Note: Power Struggle is still a work in progress. I'm not very good at weapon and healthpack placement, so if you have any suggestions for where to put the weapons and healthpacks, feel free to chime in and I'll see what I can do with it. Kthnx. Anywho, here's a quick rundown of the plant: The reactor tower. This is where the nuclear stuff goes on. There's a gatling gun on the top of the tower that I added after this picture was taken. Passage going up the inside of the tower. It's a bit cramped walking between the reactor and the lead-shielded tower wall, but that's fine, since people were never intended to be that close to nuclear reactors for extended periods of time. There is a soft kill zone around the reactor that only effects you if you're literally pressing right up against it. The refueling machine, attached to the side of the reactor. There is a sniper spawn on the utility catwalks along the side. The main pump, which pumps the nuclear stuff through a pipe inside the water tank. That's how nuclear plant's work, apparently. The water tank, or "Steam Generator" gets nuclear stuff run through it, which causes the water to turn to steam (I learned a little bit about nuclear power when I was making this map. Yay knowledge.) There's a plasma repeater and a plasma launcher in the building at the base of the tank. The turbine generator. This is what makes the electricity. The steam goes into it, and spins the turbine, and then turns back into water, and goes back into the tank. There's a gravity hammer located in the turbine assembly, but it can't be reached without a jetpack. Kind of a special hidden bonus. There's also a Ghost parked under the structure. This is the generator part of the turbine generator. Also visible at the bottom part is the cooling mechanism. Instead of one of those f***ing huge cement cooling towers that people always associate with nuclear plants (which are natural draft cooling towers) I went with what's known as a forced draft cooling mechanism. In the real world, its less efficient, but it Forge World, it uses less budget. This is the control tower. For overseeing the plant and stuff. You know that room Homer Simpson works in? That's what this is. There's a grenade launcher and a needle rifle on the walls and a dropshield on the control panel. And of course one of the most iconic nuclear power plant thingies: The cooling pond. This is where they stick the spent fuel rods so they don't go all Chernobylly. Shut up. Its a word because I say it is. There's a fuel rod cannon here. Because this is where the fuel rods are. Duh. In addition to the gametypes listed above, it is also compatible with Halo Chess So yeah, that's pretty much it (plus boring catwalks and stuff and a couple weapons I may have forgotten about). Please let me know what you think and lemme know how I could make it better.
Okay to start with this map looks very interesting. The layout is a bit unusual but like I said it looks very interesting so I'll have to get back to you on that after I play a few games on it. You said it was for FFA though so I'm thinking it should be okay. I ran through it in forge and everything seems very well constructed and the weapon placement seemed pretty good though you should include a weapon list in your post so I can get a better idea. I really liked some of the structures you made they look really nice but some areas like underneath look a little bit too open.
Reminds me of Rust on MW2, but in a good way. I like how you actually researched nuclear power plants and worked to make it look like one, while still making a map out of it. A DL from me. P.s, you got banter.
I'm not sure how well it seems for gameplay, but I LOVE teh aesthetics here. You just gave me a idea for a map too. Overall it's a map that the player wants to explore.
That's okay, I've never played MW2 so Rust means nothing to me either positively or negatively [br][/br]Edited by merge: What?
