...He's asking for non-Halo maps. I suggest you DEFINITELY make some of the maps from Metroid Prime: Hunters, if anything. Headshot in the Skybubble or Oubliette in the crypt would be completely amazing.
Because we've never seen a Hang 'em High remake before... I've seen someone make a remake of Blood Gulch out in the dunes, it didn't turn out half bad.
Sorry about the statement earlier: but when people say remake, I think remake. As in: basically a direct clone except for how it looks (for example, desert instead of mountains). The one posted above me it pretty good. But it's obviously not a direct clone, and not a full remake. Very well done inspiration, but not the exact same. w/e Zee, was Headshot that one floating up high in what was like dusty clouds, with the spawning platforms you had to jump off of onto the main platform, which lead into the two story building, with man cannons to shoot you back to the spawn points or up onto the second floor of the building? I know I'm not very clear, but I haven't played for ever. lol. I remember Oubliette well enough to know it was awesome.
Yeah, that's what headshot was. You could fall through that hole in the center and pickup the Altdeath or whatever it's called. The only thing is is that the bottom-level was "slippery" because it was made of ice or glass or something, and I doubt people would want to have to use those four tunnels on the bottom level as crouch tunnels.
I personally don't see the point of making a complete remake. We've been there done that, liked it a lot and want to recreate that fun. But if you try to make it identical then not only are you probably going to fail and give up but it uses no imagination or creativity. I prefer to try and remake similar gameplay, shape and environment to the original map but not stick to it completely. I like to give maps my own touch. Also you have got to bare in mind the differences in physics, gameplay and weapons from Halo 1 to Halo 3 or when converting maps from other games to halo 3. It simply does not work well to try to make a replica and rarely does someone suceed when taking on that approach
Go through CoD4, Halo 1, and Halo 2 [or any other game you might want] and just take a quick scroll through the maps. Find the ones that would look reasonable to make, and possible to make, and make it. It's not hard.
Wow, I definitely didn't think I would get this many replies so soon. I can see alot of great maps that can be remade for halo 3. Im a bit busy atm(because im on holidays and im going camping for the next week and have to finish of 1 other map first) but I will definitely remake one of these maps. BTW anyone else is welcome to take ideas from this thread. If you see a map you would like to remake go ahead I dont mind. I will take a better look at all the maps people have suggested when my internet isint capped (it took me 5 minutes to load this page). Yes if its alright Id like to see the sketchup you have of Rat Race. I totally agree, there is no point in making a complete remake of a map especially when its on halo anyway. I will be adding my own touch to any map I remake and I will take into account the different gameplay from other games like cod. Thanks everyone keep these ideas coming
Heat Wave or Sanctuary fron Unreal Tournament 3, Warsong Gultch from WoW, Planet X from Time splitters, ect...
Nope, I'm thinking of a different level. No death-alt. I know what level you're talking about: it's mainly blue, right? And the outside part was in outerspace which lead to flying around was Sylux in alt-form. The level I'm think about is in the clouds, not space. I'll try to find a video of it... EDIT: Here it is: Harvester. Not the best video, but you get the idea YouTube- Hagriss Vs. Jawatlynn YouTube- DSG (Sylux) vs. Zack (Weavel) - Oubliette That is the other map suggested, Oubliette. Someone has already made Combat Hall apparently for Halo 3...but it was made before Ghost Merging 7 months ago.
Yeah, descriptively, Harvester and Headshot sound kind of similar--Headshot's the one in space. Either way, both would be really good maps to play on if done well. For some reason, Harvester's geometry reminds me quite a bit of Epitaph. Not that anyone would be able to make it on there, but still.
For inspiration try anything from the Unreal series. they have some pretty impressive maps. My favorite is heat wave or bio-hazard from UT3. Also try google searching QUAKE LIVE. It's free and they have tons of great maps at their disposal.
