So I have a portable harddrive, which my computer identifies as "My Passport". It's a WD portable harddrive which contains all of my music files. Previously, when i plugged it in on my computer it would show up as (F on my computer. Now, however it shows up as (G, which is really frustrating me because now all my music in itunes "cannot be located" because the original source was F:/.... and now my music is G:/...., does anyone know how to fix this or change it back to F: from G:? Your help is appreciated.
Have you hooked up any other storage devices to your computer or has someone else? Edit: Itunes should ask you to find the music library which you can select from your external HD.
It's USB right? Did you use a different port, because I think that matters. If you don't figure it out, you can change the location of each file to G. I think you should be able to open the music directly from the drive, also.
I thought changing the name of the file directory (i.e. E to F) is only possible when there's no data on it, elst it deletes all of the data and functions as a new drive.
I'd agree with Scope, I'm kinda sure it matters where you plugged it in. I thought each letter corresponds to a USB outlet or expansion bay slot or something like that.
It does, I use a WD Mybook, unless you specify a name for it, it automatically assumes the drive port you plugged it into.
well yeah i know i can click "locate" or go through my drive and reopen every song file i have, but i have a solid 6,000+ songs on it, so needless to say i don't want to have to go through that hassle. i tried to pluggin it in different outlets (i have 4 on my laptop) and all of them say (G, no matter what it is plugged into. is there a way to mass change all the files location to G:? Like Select+All songs on my itunes then just type G to F where it says F:/blahblah/blah/blahblahblah. but how do i do that exactly? thanks for the help!
I did this on my PC when I moved a shitton of music folders over. You either need to do each song individually (locate, go to the G: , locate song there, click) or you do what I did Delete all the songs in itunes (making sure they're the ones from your external) and reupload them from the external.
