    1v1 Conflict, Round 1.

Penance is a symmetrical map created in the crypt of Sandbox. Being one of the medium sized maps in the tournament, Penance's main focus is long to medium range BR fights with a mix of some tactical close range weapons to surprise your opponent. Using gradual changes in heights, Penance allows for easy strafing, while having areas of higher ground to gain an advantage in those tight BR battles. Multiple start strategies will have your opponent thrown off as he tries to predict and adapt to the choices made right out of the gate.

Alongside the balanced geometry, an array of tactical weapons and equipment can give a player the upper hand when used in the correct situations. A power drain may allow for an offensive push or trap, while a regenerator may help you turn the tide or escape that hairy situation by the skin of your teeth. With no overlaying power weapon, playing Penance all comes down to correct timing and a whole lot of bullets from a Battle Rifle.

Good luck to all competitors, and have a great tournament.

Looks good guys. I'll have to download this even though I'm not in the tournament.

Just out of curiosity, do all these maps count as actual features for their designers?

Yes, the do. All forgers are premium+ though, so it's not an extremely huge deal.

This is definitely a well crafted map, I definitely enjoyed playing on it even though I loss all four of the games I played. Without a doubt the standards have definitely increased dramatically since the last 1v1 tournament. I thought every thing was done perfectly on the map and in my opinion is the best 1v1 map I've ever played on. Great job guys.

This looks amazing. For some reason I think of Quake 2 when I look at it.

I'm looking forward to the tournament, hopefully I can make it past the first round lol.

Oh wow, this is absolutely amazing. The aesthetics are absolutely jaw dropping and the planning is so well thought out. I love it and look forward to the other maps even more!

Wait, so does that mean that certain people in the tourney got to play the maps early? If so that doesn't seem very fair. Other than that the map looks very well made and I can't wait to practice on it tomorrow.

Seeing how they made the maps themselves, I hardly see how it's unreasonable to play on your own damn map.

And they might want to test it before they release it for a big tourney. Not too out of the question, is it?

I had a 1v1 with AGamer a little while ago, and I must say, I am definitely impressed with the amount of work put into this map. The two-way teleporter was a nice addition and the laser was ok. I didn't use the laser because of it's charge time, but I'd like to see the creative uses out of it. ;)

No I mean like agamer said he tested and he's in the tourny (I think) so that would mean he got a little more practice on the map. Don't get me wrong I don't really care I was mainly just wondering.

Everyone will get a week to practice on any given map before they have to play that round, and a week is more than enough time to get acquainted to a new environment.

As for the map itself, I have gotten two games on it and thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay both times. Then again, I may be biased for I won both of those times, but it wasn't due to an imbalanced map. When I first started this up, I noticed the varying amount of starting strategies players can implement, a surprising amount for being a 1v1 map. That, combined with longterm strategies, and we get a tasty little morsel full of some good BR action. What I noticed most about this map (which I almost feel is lost in many maps today), is that map control isn't so much about controlling the power weapons, as it is controlling key areas of the map. The two most obvious being the shotgun and camo spawn. While it is nice to be wielding the shotgun or the spartan laser, it didn't really feel quite necessary. In the end, I think the people that will win this round are going to be the ones who lock down the map early on in the match, and keep it locked down.

I wasn't around for the first 1v1 tourney, but I think I can say with confidence that this one will be better than its predecessor, and even the 2v2 we had last year.

The map was on my FS to get things organized for the post. Someone scanned my FS and posted a thread earlier. It was only maybe 2 hours, so it wasn't a big deal.

Figured I'd get this out of the way. Yes there are several breaks in the map and Chris is aware of most of them. So please don't comment that it is breakable.

To add on to Sharps's comment, any one who is caught breaking the map when in an actual game for the tournament will be disqualified.

There was an issue with a slightly longer grenade timer that we had to fix. If you have the old version, please make sure to download the newly updated one.

I definitely agree with Agamer's statement. I have already played a few games on this map, and I was impressed. I instantly noticed how everything was placed for gameplay. The lines of sight on this map are great. There are obvious points of interest where these lines give an advantage. Flow on this map is amazing; I always moved around the map as much as possible. Whether be to catch Camo while it spawns or to grab some plasmas, I always felt the need to constantly react to the map's control points and weapon spawn points to attempt to best my opponent. I think the weapon layout on this map flourishes. Shotgun, camo, and laser create obvious rush points. Each is centered, allowing equal access. When I played, my opponent and I constantly moved around to grab these weapons. The equipment placement great also. The power drainer is a great part of the map imo. It works really well. The regen also creates new opportunities. It is in a very fitting spot. Grenades? As usual, excellent spots. Add some SMGs and carbines, and you have a fun, innovative weapon layout. I almost forgot about the tele. It's basically ingenious. Spawns were great (even tho they were for 1v1 :p). Their alignment was precise and motivating. The map was pretty too. :p

Depending on how you use it, the laser can be the single most effective weapon on the map. It counter's regen, perfect for catching your opponent when his back is turned, and can especially piss people off who are wearing camo. I have alway gotten at least four kills a game with the laser, but I've also been killed just as many times using it. It's balanced, but it's super effective at times. My only advice is to charge through teleporters at the right time. ;P
