Hi, I'm making a two-versus-two Oddball map. I'm making this map for the people who love maps and great map design, not for money, or fame in the Halo community. Consider this post one of many logs. In my current situation, I am unable to post screenshots of my work. Screenshots will not be necessary for these first few logs, because we will be talking about the Setup. Later, we'll move unto Blocking Out, Playtesting, Artsy Fartsy, and Finalizing. The map I'm designing is a large 2v2 Oddball map. My main idea for the design is to take the general layout of one of my older maps (more on that later), and turn it into a fabulous ski resort. Yes, I have been to a ski resort before. Keep in mind that, although it is designed as a ski resort, it is the interior of a ski resort. I decided to tackle a ski resort to flex my artistic abilites for when I make bigger and better maps later on, but the layout is of one I have a history of. The original incarnation of this design comes from an unpublished map in Halo 4 known as New Pacific. The map features a mongoose, two main levels of elevation, and series of parallel "trenches", that define the maps main battle-lane. The map had exensive support for Oddball, and that is where I draw the potential for a 2v2 Oddball map. The map also had extensive lighting issues, so I rebuilt the entire map. The remake was known as Reprise Overhaul. Result: failure, but a few extra details made it look better. Then Halo: MCC happened. I had no faith that the map would go anywhere, But I tried anyway. The first fruit was a bad apple, I blocked out the map and just deleted everything. Then, I did something desperate: I tried to forge two of my old designs together, without looking back on either of them. It was this vehicular, Frankenstein, Hang em High vibed mess. Deleted it AND the MCC. Halo 5 forge finally comes out, and everyone is just a complete noob at it, including me. I decided to remake New Pacific for some reason. I threw up a couple cinema signs and overly bright lights. The two teams spawned directly across from each other. I wanted to remake the map on Alpine, and some kiddy troll welded all of my pieces and set the physics to normal (it was me). My efforts literally came tumbling down. So I gave up. I made other maps and then got caught up in school, but the layout had always lingered in the back of my mind. Recently, I thought about doing a map log on ForgeHub, the idea seemed beneficial in almost every way to the maps I were making. So here we are with the idea for a 2v2 Oddball map named Pacific Station. Leave any questions and I will address them tomorrow.
