Orpheus Hey guys. This is a map I've been working on for about a month. It's basically just a remake of the mythic map Orbital. I've been very loyal to the original, but there were a couple things that just wouldn't fit my budget. You'll find that the overall layout and weapon placement is 100% identical; however, I reached my item limit and so I couldn't integrate much aesthetics (such as the spiral staircase) or flesh out the bases, without conflicting the spawns. I used up so much that I actually had to create three different versions of the map (each the same but supporting different gametypes) because the item limit wouldn't let me support all the game variants on just one version. After testing the map, it felt very Orbital-ish, i.e., many of Orbital's various combat scenarios manifested on Orpheus, such as the fight for rocket and sniper, and if you're playing assault or oddball, the fight for the bomb and the oddball. I also added a death pit (just like in Orbital OMG!), right below rocket spawn. See, before I even made this map, I knew I wanted the death pit. My thinking was, if I can't have a death pit, then I'm NOT remaking this. So ya. Moving On... There are three versions... Orpheus v1.0 - Supports Team Slayer and CTF Orpheus v1.1 - Supports One Bomb Assault and Braaaaains Infection Orpheus v1.2 - Supports Team Oddball and Team King Of The Hill The spawns on versions 1.1 and 1.2, however, need tweaking. Nice remake! I like how it manages to recapture the many different playstyles of Orbital, while at the same time offering aesthetics and designs that cannot be found on the original. When playing it, I felt as though I was playing something completely new and fresh, even though the nods to Orbital were obvious. Well done, Kill4Silence. Also, just out of curiosity, is it possible to shoot through the window that connects the two bases together. It just doesn't seem as though there are any shield doors in between them. Edit: would it be possible to edit your maps' names to reflect what gametype they're for? When I first downloaded them, I had no idea which one was for CTF, Infection, etc. I understand that the description tells you all you need to know, but I'd still like to be able to know what map I'm using at a glance.
its possible, but gameplay is so quick and gritty that noone really has time to sit there and shoot through the windows
Looks sweet from the pics. I love a map with it's own floor, walls and ceiling. plus the gameplay will obviously mirror regular Orbital's gameplay. I kind of think it would have been cool if you implemented your own weapon spawn system into the map to provide a bit of originality and shown a bit of your style. Nice, as HarisSales said.. I like most of the features from Orbital. Orbital has little flaws, and I hope you fixed them
Woah there! I just noticed something after playing a game on Orpheus. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but all of your equipment is set to instant respawn. I'd recommend you just fiddle with the run time min-max settings until the problem is fixed. I know I probably should have just edited my older comment to tell you this, but I was afraid you'd miss it, and you've already quoted me and whatnot, lol.
yeah, the instant respawn WAS on everything (fusion coils, rocket launcher, etc...) but i forgot to fix the equipment. That was a major issue when we were testing, but I'll definitely fix that and post it as soon as possible. I'm also thinking about just turning Orpheus into my own map. Alot of people have been telling me that although there are obvious resemblances to Orbital, it feels like it's own map (including you, i think lol). So I'm debating on adding additional catwalks/hallways, but keeping everything I liked. The bases are definitely going to change. I didn't like the way they were structured but as I was extremely limited on my budget, there was nothing more I could do. Btw, are you Hassanq? Or was your older gamertag Hassanq? Or is Hassanq your new gamertag?
I've got to be honest, the testing was quite... bad. Every minute someone had a rocket or sniper, and everyone always spawned at the base witch was bad for camping and equipment was on instant respawn. But the forging is quite good. You just need to interlock more.
that's because rocket and sniper spawned every 30 seconds (if im not mistaken). which ill fix when i fix the equipment. and as for the spawns, as i stated in my post, i reached my item limit fast, and when it came time to make the spawns, i could only make a few without sacrificing too much.
You can avoid spawn problems (which I used to have a lot of) if you use a canvas that has all of the spawn points still on it. Keep them stacked somewhere, and then you will have enough always.
This is amazing!! Your forging on this map is incredible. But I cant say how gameplay is ATM because I dont own a 360, so when I go to my cousins I'll test it and get back to you. Does this map have every single room that Orbital has or did you have to leave some out? just wondering
