After getting a couple of test games, I decided that I was ready to release V1 of my Last Resort/Zanzibar remake. After having great success with other remakes, and finding no remakes that resembled the original whatsoever, I decided I would give it a shot myself. I'm still in the process of setting the map up for more than flag, and slayer, but it is rather challenging, since i hit the item limit. But I am working on reducing the number of items. The details are a mix of Last Resort and Zanzibar. Definitely the largest change, is the wheel. I wanted to keep the map reasonably similar in gameplay. I decided that the best approach, would be to make the wheel destroyed. I added a series of jumps to reach the top, and the leftover pieces will bump the vehicle if the jump is done incorrectly. I can only imagine how hard this must have been to make. I haven't even given this a thought as to how to make... I'll download it and see what this remake is made of =D
I never imagined that a remake of this map could be this accurate. I love the broken wheel idea. My only complaint is that in your 5th picture I think the circular object around the wheel isn't as thick as it was in halo 3. 9.7/10 (Missing gametypes, other minor issues.) You have my DL. EDIT: After downloading this and looking at it, I need to say some things. First, an entire walkway is missing. Second, one of the starting bases with the sniper rifle has no lower floor. After noticing these major flaws in game I must drop my rating to 6/10, because this is supposed to be a remake. Other than that, you need to work on the death barriers. There are a few spots where you can get out of the map, and even in the spots with soft kill barriers, you can get out of the barrier before the 10 seconds elapses. EDIT2: Also, the name "One Final Effort" sounds too much like a game variant to me. I would suggest taking out "One." That would make it sound better, I think.
You do realize that this is a hybrid right... the original zanzibar didn't have that walkway and it didn't have that lower room... they were added to Last Resort. So why are you knocking it down by 4 points when it stays true to its "Last Resort/Zanzibar" remake?
First, this map is a hybrid of Zanzibar and Last Resort. The walkway only appeared in the Last Resort. On top of that, I hit the OLN. The same statement applies to the second claim, although I did change that in the newer version. I also fixed all of the holes in the death barrier I could find, although I dont think its perfect yet. The map is named One Final Effort, mainly because it makes me think of last resort. One Final Effort is also YouTube - Halo 3 Soundtrack - One Final Effort The new version also plays 1 bomb.
Oh. Sorry, I don't have my copy of Halo 2 and I haven't been on Zanzibar in forever. So, I didn't remember what was on Zanzibar and what wasn't. I get the name now, that's cool. 9.7/10 (Changed back for obvious reasons, , lol.)
Man what an amazing job on the map! I would have made the same mistake as Random, I almost completely forgot that Zanzibar had no bottom room where the sniper is located. With the still existent limitations of forge you made one kick @ss map. Great job! Edit: I played on this map and it is very good. The only issue is the extreme flickering, which definitely is not your fault but Bungies. A great map to play on and it's true to the originals. Great job!
Huge Update! I'm now trying to perfect this for the forgotten treasures contest. I think im pretty close though.
Which specific jumps are you talking about? I'm fairly sure the jumps are true to the original, but I'm no expert on last resort.
I played this with you a few days ago when we were all in Noxiw's custom games, so I think Ill post my thoughts and criticism. Start on a positive; it was beautifully forged. The scale of the map was near perfect to the originals. All of the rooms and locations were there, nothing was left out. The weapons and vehicles were all in their right locations. You chose the perfect location to build the map. There wasn't really anything you could do to make it better. But thats where the problem is. Despite it being so well made, it didn't have the same feel or flow as the original map, something which a lot of remakes did have. When I first began the game I couldn't work out where I was, mainly because the starting spawns for red were in the wrong place. The building at the back of the map lacked as well. I understand you hit the OLN but this could have used a bit more thought. Overall it was an awesome map and definately worth a download. 7/10. Keep forging!
the ramp for teh ramp leading to teh defenders base, might i suggest using upside down tin cups to imitate a more natural ramp/incline/jump
@ alchemist: I have 5 dollars left, and cant place any items. @crypto:If it can be more accurate, then I will make it more accurate
lol: haters this is a brilliant map, you've done really well and your solution to the fan problem works really well. feels like im returning to Zanzibar and they bombed the **** out of it (in very specific areas ) Btw, I'm new here and the forum rules say no insulting language so I'm assuming its fine so swear as long as its not an insult. Peeps kno if thats right? lol
Thanks for the feedback, and yes, I'm pretty sure you have the rule correct. UPDATE: EDIT: One Final Update
I've been having wet dreams about a Zanzi remake. You have my download instantly. I love the broken wheel concept. Very innovative, very contextually brilliant. The only change I'd make personally would be an easter egg, so I can't really call it an improvement on the remake (that being placement of a grav lift inside the floor of the inner window inside the defense base to reflect the famous jumping glitch of Halo 2). Thank you kindly, used man.
I've only had a single play on this, and since I can see some changes that it has undergone, regardless, it was a blast to play, you've captured the essence of Zanzibar/Last Resort very well. This has definitely earned itself a place in my remakes section on my harddrive. Y DOES WEEL NOT MOVE?!?!
used man, You and i need to teem up on this map. i think our zanzibar/ last resorts together could be the perfect remake. i love your froman ramp and defensive base. i was thinking my beach front and fan (which could be broke down or damaged a little bit perhaps) mixed together would be awesome. we should team up and forge it out on my map, i want some help on deciding what on mine should go and what should stay to increase my budget and built more.
One Final Update: SRS THIS TIME I think that this will be the final version. I had a huge amount of trouble scrounging any more items when I was finishing this version, and I really cant think of any inaccuracy that would effect gameplay at all. The only thing left to do is to create a seperate version that has the features of zanzibar. EDIT: gunther, like i said in the PM I sent you, I think that 2 good remakes of this map are enough, I would love to work with you on a different hard to remake map though.
