Hey guys, I've been trying to create ODST pods in forge, both functional and aesthetic variants as well as a pilot-able one. So far I nailed 2 versions of the pods for aesthetic use. However, I need help testing and finding some new ideas for functional ODST pods as well as how to implement them in a gametype. I'm thinking of creating a gametype where ODSTs are dropped at the bottom of a canyon on glacier and must fight their way up or even a horror map based off this concept. Also Thinking to create a space station that will drop pods not just at the start of the game. If anyone is great at forging or would simply like to help, add me and msg me. Hopefully we'll be able to create some awesome gametypes or even a D-Day like reenactment. GT: el halo geek
To have operational drop pods, this is what is try first (off the top of my head). Take your aesthetic pod and add a switch inside. Script the switch to open a door on the ground below, make the door open fast. Sit your pod on top, group it all including the switch, weld, physics normal. Step in, press the switch. You will need some structure to hold the pod upright id imagine. Also when it hits the ground it may kill/injure the occupant. Good luck
Sadly the scripting is a bit difficult to work with especially with having it work inside the pod. Im thinking of setting one based on timers but im really looking for something very efficient.
The pod wouldn't need any scripting, just weld and set normal physics. If you wanted the switch that activates it attached to the pod then script that before welding to the pod. The hatch below would be the the only thing that is scripted to move.
I took your map and made a working pod for you. I didn't bother with looks or anything, just function. I had to enlarge your pod a little to fit a spartan in. It's on my file share. Doesn't always land flat, but with some tweaking it could be more consistent. Doesn't damage shields when it lands flat either Look up EDIT - It depends on where the Spartan is standing inside as to whether it drops straight or not. You could use invisible blockers to keep it on course until just above the ground, a sort of pipe to steer it.
THank, I'll check it out. Ima try to build a POD demo world for people to check out and maybe steal some designs for their own maps. Ima also try creating other types of vehicles or functional aesthetics such a covenant drop pod, moving airplane, a puzzle like contraption, and pilotable monsters for my horror map
