after studying World War 2 and D-Day I've decided to make yet another attempt at a D-Day map. I do not want this one to be a crummy map that does not get noticed. So I need some ideas to help me get started. My Thoughts: The Map will either be in the Crypt or Sandbox Main. If it is on the main layer I want to modify the big hill on sandbox through geomerging. If the map is in the crypt I want a hill with larger bunkers that can only be accessed from the back. If the map is on the main layer The hill will extend to the very edge where the towers shoot you to prevent exploits. At the top of the main layer hill the will be 1 bunker in the middle with additional turrets on the sides. Totaling 3 At the top of the crypt hill the bunker will dominate the hill and have 2 turrets inside of the hill. (There may be a passage under this bunker that can be accessed from the front and leads to the back [open] side of the bunker) Whether the map is on either layer I want to build the ship blockers that prevented troop carriers from coming ashore. Either layer will have some sort of water but it wont be much. Those are most of my ideas for now. What I need help with is what layer to build it on, what idem should I use to build the ship blockers (maybe teleporters), additional ideas for water, what to use as ships, player traits (IE shield strength, damage resistance, etc.), and anything else you can help me with. I would suggest for the initial spawns, they could be by a damaged transfer boat, so then it's like your squad is already on the beach, and large amounts of water effects won't be needed, nor would a complex boat (maybe something similar to Battlefield 1943's boats would do the trick). To be noticed, it all depends on what kind of map this'll be and what gametypes it'll be designed for, like a Symmetric Slayer Normandy map would be a nice change from the normal asymmetric objective ones. King of the Hill would be interesting, too if you make the spawns different so Japanese soldiers don't come from the same boats as US troops, maybe make a similar spawn with no water, like a small outpost. I wouldn't suggest making a specific gametype if you want this to get really noticed, it could convince some not to download it. If you insist on a custom gamtype, for the weapons and damage, I suggest any kind of rifle (AR, BR, possibly SMG) and a Magnum for a side arm for weapon starts, with a small increase of damage. You don't want no shields because then health can't be seen, and can't tell when it is recharging. Maybe 150% damage with shields, if that is available. In Call of Duty games, health recharges, and I think that's important for online shooters. Cheers, and good luck.
This might work but since I am on the main layer of sandbox (Ive decided to go with the main layer) I have a lot of room and i might be able to use the boats as long as they arent stupid and cheesey. I think it would be cool to have a symmetric addition to this map (like add weapons that only appear in symmetric games that balance the map). I don't really like the idea of adding Japanese for KOTH because I would like to stay historically accurate. I am going to make the slayer version have no modifications but this map will have a special infection gametype where the Americans start with 75% of the starting players. Have the spawns be territory based, like in conquest. Have plenty of cover in the starting areas for the marines.
