Epic Says This Is What Next-Gen Should Look Like View in full size for all their glory Spoiler Epic Games isn't just showing off the latest improvements to the Unreal Engine 3 at GDC 2011. They're showing us what the next-generation of games should look like. Do the images hold up to the hype? Considering the percentage of games released every year powered by the Unreal Engine 3, Epic might have a point. Upgraded features to UE3 don't just mean Epic will have prettier games. It means a major chunk of developers will suddenly gain access to these enhanced tools, rendering cigarettes so real I want to light up and robot monstrosities you can almost reach out and touch, which would likely be a bad idea. These images are from a trailer being shown off at GDC this week, which should be dropping on the general public next week with the weight of a killer mech. looks typically unreal engine, and very much this gen. hair is still the least real thing (ofc) tbh imo its really down to production values that determine the technical aspect of things. it looks like arkham city tbh
I have to agree that I can easily see this running on current systems, but maybe the examples aren't the best. Should be nice to start seeing other shots with these systems. Also, is Epic working under the assumption that the next gen is soon, because I'm not sure that's so true.
Don't really understand why some people think this could run on current consoles. I'm fairly certain these are screens taken from a full trailer. The hair on the man, especially his beard, is just ridiculous at how much better it looks compared to hair in current games. The reflections are also very realistic and everything just looks so alive. I wasn't really sure when I wanted a new console generation, but if they can come up with animations to match these gorgeous graphics and have the game run smoothly then sign me up!
Full trailer YouTube - Epic Unreal Engine 3 New Official Demo HD Also like shatakai said, this tech will most likely not run on current consoles. It is an improvement to Unreal Engine 3 but it is not Unreal Engine 4. However this demo needed to be run through 3 graphics cards so its demands are just too much for current consoles. PC's could play it but only serious processing power PC's.
