Don't low whether I'm reading too much into this, and I assume I am, but this sounds pretty interesting: I would think modifiable means you can forge on it, but it's worded as something else entirely.
Would be cool, but think of the framerate drops. Nice to hear this map will share map-specific palettes and have it's own pieces. This is shaping up to the the go-to forge canvas I think.
Would've been very cool, but nah. It's very unlikely. For now I'm already just really glad that they made it a LOT easier to create big maps. If they also return the Falcon (since we'd easily be able to build compatible maps for that vehicle again - that was essentially their reason for removing it) I'd be a happy man.
Its silly to think there is a chance that a vehicle would be returning with a map. I'm sorry to be blunt, Rem, but it just won't happen.
I guess you're right, Ell. I just really miss that vehicle, it was a blast. And it's a shame that I found a way to make it work in an Infection map I was going to make, but never got around to it due to Halo 4's release.
I really miss it too. It's beyond me why they left it out. Even if they didn't want to include it in matchmaking, they could at least put it in the game so we could use it.
I would also love to see a falcon return, it really is such a shame that it's gone. I don't expect it to come back either, but for now we can at least hope. I would have been interested to see that infection map
We all miss our beloved air vehicle. You know, they were flying in the Banshee showing the three islands... Imagine the reaction of the crowd if suddenly the spartan had turned around and stepped in to a hornet/falcon, the crowd would go absolutly rampage haha. I would pay to see that reaction.. But I am excited enough for the new forge pieces, and a map I am going to build there. I already am sketching it out
That would have been amazing!! Reminds me of when they first showed Forge World, flying around in one. But yeah, if the Falcon was returning, I imagine they would have done that.
Moments of power can be made. Man, it would've been so great if they done that. I even think people wouldn't focus on the map anymore, and go absolute nuts. Wich would have been awesome..
I never knew how much I liked the Falcon until it was gone when Halo 4 came out. They could have easily brought it back for this Forge Island Map, even if it wasn't use-able on any other map. They teased us with it on Skyline, lol. The biggest thing I am excited for with Forge Island is that large scale classic style BTB maps can be made again. I look forward to seeing what creations people make on this.
I don't think a skybox element is the same as a playable asset. Not sure how possible it is to bring it back at this stage.
Basically the code for the vehicle has to be in the game already. They don't embed all of that in the map files - just textures and some other variables that feed into the engine. So unless the falcon was built into Halo 4 and then just hidden at some point, I think we can expect to not fly its gloriousness around in this game. Or to put it another way: has any DLC map ever, in console Halo history, introduced a new weapon or vehicle, or re-introduced a weapon or vehicle from a prior Halo game? Apart from some light re-skinning (the snow vehicles on Avalanche) I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Stuff in the skybox is much simpler to program and just follows some basic looped behavior - move here, fire some fake shots over there, rinse and repeat.
I remember they modified the weapons on the Hornet in H3 for DLC maps but that's not quite the same thing either.
Good call, yeah. Certain limited things they can do - the same kinds of things modders find ways to do, after much trial and error - but programming in whole new vehicles requires a TU, I'm pretty certain.
