This is my most recent map; MLG Octet.

    Overview

As you can see, it's rather different to most MLG games as it isn't completely encased by walls like MLG Amplified, Onslaught and various other popular MLG maps. Instead I've opted for a more scenic approach that still clearly states boundaries. Without actually having the gametypes in Reach, I've had to base the map on what I think the set up would be.

    Out View

The Map itself is based around MLG Onslaught. It has quick end to end combat for Capture the Flag. There are some major changes; like bottom mid is much more open, but more raised at the sides. and there are some not so major changes; two large towers at each base.

    Central Point

I've only recently had it "finished" so it's playable and had a couple of tests on it. Without the actual gametypes I can't say how well it will play. I did make my own "MLG" gametype based off of Halo 3's MLG Multiflag, which seemed to work fairly well. A few minor adjustments were made and it seemed to start flowing really well.

    Blue Base

The only areas of concern now are weapons, objectives and spawns and obviously I require the gametype and testers for this. Any offers?

    I currently have: 2x Needle Rifle (D), 4x DMR, 1x Plasma Pistol (D), 2x Health Station, 1x CPU, 4x Frag grenades
    (D) = Drop Spawned

I also don't really know if I like bottom middle.. there is an alternative with 7 rocks that block LoS from base to base better, but it just looks crap to me... so... any thoughts there could be nice too.

I'd maybe do some rails around that pool area, unless that water is so shallow it can be walked through. I've learned from painful playtesting experience that a lot of players don't look where they are going, or assume that anything other than a yawning chasm filled with explosives and sharks is a safe place to go. I just finished a map with some exposed walkways over water and three of the guys drowned repeatedly, despite my efforts to mark where they needed to stay in order to live.

Indeed, it was considered but no the water is a kill pit. I'm contemplating placing rocks beneath the water's surface so the water there looks like it's been placed artificially. I guess I'll see during testing. Thanks though, it's something worth looking into if enough people fall in it. (I know I already have)

there are MLG gametypes out now. ill do a quick search and find you a thread.

the fileshare link is at the bottom.
you can place jetpack, drop shield, hologram, camo, and armor lock on your map i think, and those will be the only source of AAs. so you should think about them.

Thanks man, as of now.. I haven't placed any armour abilities. Honestly enough, I thought MLG would have just had sprint and nothing else. I found the game types earlier, yet to have a game with them though :(

You can get rid of some of those overlapping blocks creating diagonals (by the pool) by using 2x2 banks turned flat instead. They'll be a little smaller (you're using 3x3s right now), but it might look nicer. Alternatively, you could use 1 2x2 bank, 1 1x1 bank, and 1 2x1 flat to create the same size, but that might look unsightly.

(IF you wanted to, and were bothered by the overlap)

I'm not really bothered by them to be honest, with the rest of the overlapped textures, it kinda looks right to be honest :/

    Cheers anyway though

Stevo showed me this map the other and it looked pretty good. A lot of testing will need to be done if you want submit it as an MLG map. The central section may need some work but I am liking the little island.
I'd say hit me up for testing when you need but I doubt we will ever be on long enough at the same time. :(
