Hey everybody, I'd like to introduce my newest map, MLG Frostbite. (Yeah, really creative name, I know.) So, from the first time I played Cold Storage, it always bothered me how it didn't really play very well for team games, especially for MLG. (Which I play quite alot.) However, I really liked Cold Storage, particularly the art and structure of the map. Everything in Cold Storage is very nice to look at. Anyways, I had been thinking about trying something outside of Foundry for a change, and I thought, "What if I make an MLG Cold Storage?" At first, I wasn't sure how I would go about making Cold Storage playable for MLG; it seemed far too small. But then I realized, that although Cold Storage is small horizontally, it has a lot of space vertically. Basically, I added ramps, bridges and other little things to expand Cold Storage as much as possible. Since this is an MLG-style map, all teleporters have been removed, and there is an MLG weapon set. You may think that it looks a little basic, however, you'd be surprised at how much bridges and ramps can change how the map plays. My testers are competetors in the GameBattles ladders, and they said that it could very well be accepted by MLG if they saw it. The result is that most of the action takes place on the top of the map. One of my testers mentioned that it reminded him of Construct because of this. It's interesting how adding a few bridges and ramps, while removing the teleporters can completely change how a map plays. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I think it flows very well, and I hope you guys like it. Cheers! Weapon Set 4x Battle Rifle 4x Covenant Carbine 1x Plasma Pistol 1x Mauler 1x Rocket Launcher 6x Frag Grenades 6x Plasma Grenades And now... the Pictures. In the previous two pictures, the ramp doesn't look like it's lined up, and it's not. That's on purpose. The holes allow people to quickly jump down and off the ramp and not get clogged there, should the other team be controlling the bridge. After I added those holes in v1.3, there was a lot less Rocket Triple Kills. In this Flood Room as well, the ramp is slightly unaligned to allow for drop down escapes. If you start at the bottom of the ramp and keep running straight, you will fall off of the ramp onto the floor. If someone is chasing you from the main room, usually you will be above their sight line when you drop off of the ramp, and they get confused. Time to turn the tables! Download MLG Frostbite
Sorry guys, I think I hit return or something, I dunno, and it posted it. I was like, "Damn!!" Have you ever done that with an email before you're ready to send it? Anyways, let the painful criticism begin!
saying that my post fails, is that supposed to affend me? well it doesnt, its not my fault you tried to be a blam! to blackfox saying that he can point the avatar back at him, or whatever you said i was just letting you know that there has been a misunderstanding now can we please wait for him to finish his post thank you in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------- i like the idea of using the energy blockers, as bridges to connect things it makes the level more complete and useful, because you dont have to jump across. a good map, espeacially for cold storage =]
this actually looks fairly well done. ill download it and try it out. im just not a fan of MLG games. I really like what you did with the yellow flood room.
gawd, why is every one so touchy. Have a sense of humor. Anyway, onto the map. It does look very well thought out. It seems everything is linked. Like you're able to walk up a ramp and go to another level from any room. I dont know how that'll affect gameplay, I assume this has been tested, as this is V1.5
Looks good, as far as Cold Storage goes. IMO I don't think Cold Storage can have many good results when it comes to forging the map. It always looks a mess, and although this one isn't as scruffy as others, the whole map interlocked and pasted into foundry would look better.
Well, that's your opinion. But remember, the point of this map was to make Cold Storage an MLG map, not to make an MLG map on Foundry. Also, to linubidix, yeah, this has been tested, and that's why it is v1.5. I sorta kinda went OCD on making the ramps and bridges smooth without any bumps at all. That took about two hours. Pain. In. The. Ass. But, it was worth it. If you guys bother to check it out, then you'll notice that it's smooth as silk.
I don't know... seems like there could of been alot more done than just allowing people to move to a higher level... and I hate the name. Though you are on the right track to forging a good Cold Storage map. Make a v.2 of this map, but call it something else.
Only Cold Storage map I've really noticed so far. I'm gonna download it and I may use it in my TGIF party next week.
Hey I never thought I would see a MLG cold storage but hey I did. Anyways it looks very nice and clean. Your weapon placement looks good. I would call this a MLG certified map.
it's not the best cold storage map thats for sure, i see some features of the map very similar to my map coldburn too... i guess i would say the map is ok because ive seen better on cold storage...
Yeah, I looked at yours, and it's really cool. (No pun intended.) However, our maps are simply different things. You have flamethrowers and shotguns and drop-down tunnels. Remember, the intent behind mine was MLG, which is more basic. I wanted playability and flow, and I wasn't going for some exotic geomerging Forgetacular creation. I'll leave that to Foundry.
very true, your map is on MLG settings so it probably plays really different, dont get me wrong tho, i do like the map you got here, it could've been forged a little better, i could merge some of that stuff for you and clean it up for you if you want...
I see why people think it may look a little unclean in the pictures... but trust me, when you actually play it, there are minimal, if any, bumps. It took a looong time to get it that smooth, and I'd really rather not mess the map unless there are any major problems. Thanks though. Edit: A few people have been criticizing the actual ramps and stuff and how the might be crooked, etc. etc. They're not. If you read my replies, and the stuff I wrote in the screenshots, you'll see that I actually think these things through. Everything on this map is intentional.
