Well...I was thinking about it and I think there should be a sub-devision for miscellaneous maps. It should be a place where people can post remakes, puzzle maps, jump tests, mazes of any map, or other various oddball maps (not that oddball) that don't fit in with the mini-games section where they have gotten assigned. That way we can keep them separated from the main bulge and have them get more views.
Many people have suggested extra map sub forums and, whilst your suggestion seems to have more of a solid basis to it than, say, an MLG forum, it still suffers from the same flaws. The staff are working really hard to maintain the map forums, especially now, and the extra demand of more forums would just have a negative impact on the site as a whole. A miscellaneous map section could be also be subject to much harsher moderation issues than normal, as it would be a real mix of different types of maps, making universal formats etc really hard. Various types of map would be fighting for position at the top, and it would be hard to go in there and get what you want, it would be at risk of becoming a jumble of maps which few people delve into. Whilst I'm all for making the map finding experience easier, I don't think that adding extra forums, and extra work for the staff, is the way to achieve this, at least for the foreseeable future.
the way I see it is that no map can be posted twice anywhere and the standard formating rules would make a clean forum that would take these maps away from the mini-games forum which is where people dump these misc. maps anyways. But squid that would be a good idea. It would make it easier for people to realize what type of map it is.
Give me an example of Miscellaneous Maps. Because any map I can think of so far can be categorized into one of the five sections.
I do think that the addition of prefixes would help out greatly. It would certainly help maps that aren't infection-brand maps to not sink to the depths of casual maps. While it would be more difficult to maintain for the staff, speaking as a staffer on another forum, I don't think it would be more than they could handle. Also, is there a running list of descriptions as to what the map subforums are supposed to hold in them? I mean more than the descriptions on the subforums themselves. I'm beginning to think I may have misposted my "Pyroclast" map as casual instead of competitive...
