Author: Brute Captain Midnight is my first map to be forged from the recently released Legendary map pack. I really liked Lockout and was satisfied with Blackout, but I also sought after something new and different. Midnight is a variant of Blackout that requires more advanced thinking to control and manuever than the default Blackout. You may find yourself rethinking your strategies and choosing alternative routes. Map Geometry: There are a number of additions to the map's geometry that signifigantly alter the flow of games. First off, several doors that are commonly used were blocked off forcing players to choose or find alternative methods of reaching their desired destination. To balance the effects of these blocked doorways, I added lifts to the hatches that a player would usually drop down, such as the one leading to the default sword placement. I have also geometry merged and interlocked several boxes on the top three main platforms to add more cover and change player movement in certain areas. More cover was added in multiple areas and the most notable being the wall placed on the platform that is at the top of the main airlift. Gametype: There is no specific gametype for Midnight. Compatibility: Midnight works well with all gametypes and is balanced just as well as the default Blackout. Weapons: 1 Energy Sword, 2 Magnums, 3 Needlers, 2 Plasma Pistols, 3 Assault Rifles, 7 Battle Rifles, 3 Carbines, 4 SMG's, 1 Sniper Rifle, 2 Spikers, 1 Rocket Launcher, 2 Brute Shots, 1 Gravity Hammer, and 3 Plasma Rifles. Equipment: 1 Bubble Shield, 1 Power Drain, 1 Radar Jammer, 1 Grav Lift, 1 Overshield, and 1 Active Camo. Forge Filters: No forge filters were used to satisfy everyone, of course you could always put them in yourself. Vehicles: No Vehicle Support Players: Midnight is best reccomended for 4-12 players. I have to download because you have wood boxes! (and in the future-add baby pallets for a DL!) Anyway, looks like an interesting re-thinking of Lockout/Blackout. I shall DL
Brute, as you are a fellow teammate of mine, I will definitely give this a download and tell you what I think of it. From the picks I can see its well made. Looks like this map will be useful for anyone searching for a good game of slayer apart from the default Blackout.
Thanks trooper, I was about to reccomend this map to you but got lazy and went offline, I will be one tommorrow and all weekend though... Thanks for looking though, I only have three views, a little slow...
I was on today and tried joining your party to get in a few game, but you were gone. But this map was the map set for the party so I left the party and gave it a run through. It has a very interesting layout. Some of it seemed a little random, but I imagine everything has a purpose. I can't really say much else because I wasn't able to actually play a game on it, but good first attempt at making a Blackout map.
Looks pretty well made, nice job using the streetlight as a natural jump to the camo. The box merged in the middle looks pretty neat (I tried that yesterday and ended up pushing it through both levels and freezing my game). I don't think you made many other drastic changes, but it's lockout, so it doesn't really need any. But are 3 needlers really necessary? And why did you put in a radar jammer (pretty much bungie's worst idea ever)?
You are the first guy I know who has decided to not use the filters and has merged with map geometry. I love you. A lot.
Well actually I have found that blocking off some of the main doorways and reversing how you use the open holes/hatches is more of a drastic change compared to a minor one because things really do play out diffferently.
I will have to give it a DL. However, it looks like those boxes take up A LOT of room on the map... Bungie could have given us smaller boxes since it is a smaller map. --dc
The boxes are only placed on the top three main platforms, and there is still manueverable space but not enough to make it easy for you. The boxes main goal was to make the top platform less of a power position, the middle to be less vulnerable, and the sniper area to have more cover in the back. Other than that they don't really occupy a large portion of the map.
Of course, and maybe you should look at the map specifications, it even has its own catagorey, forge filter... duh... lol you probably weren't even looking.
A lot of these Legendary map variants are disappointing me. I'd think Bungie could think of something that could make the forging on these maps unbelievable. No... Bungie doesn't think of us Forgers. [edit] I demand updates on Foundry Forge!!!! Add in some FX and new effing scenery! [edit]
I wake up this morning, first thing I see is this page, I refresh. Then I am confused by discovering that wooden boxes are so 1337, hmmm...., I would have guessed that they have been around longer than that.
