Okay, now as most debates go, there is no "right answer" to this question. However, there is a difference between an educated and an uneducated opinion. This thread is here to intelligently discuss this question.

No name calling, turn off signatures, and be polite.

I'm going to start off and say Marvel. The reason I say this is multi-faceted. Firstly, Marvel deals primarily with our world, there is no multiverse, it is our earth with our countries with our world leaders, with superhumans. This gives marvel a foot in reality, It makes it more believeable. Sure, there may be other universes like the ultimate universe, but they're not really interconnected, and marvel doesn't try to limit the universe into only 52 variations. DC, on the other hand deals with the whole universe, not only does it do that, but it tosses 51 other universes in its readers' faces. What this does is it makes all these superheroes seem unimportant in the grander scheme of things. It takes the average human and makes them look so insignifigant. There is too much unexplained about this vast multiverse that nothing seems to grab your attention much, save for earth and the only reason earth does is because they make it the center of all the multiverses. All in all, you'd think there would be more important things in the universe than earth. Marvel does a good job at taking what we have and what we know and adding possibilities to it. Even space is a huge mystery in the marvel universe, just as it is in ours. It also makes humans and superhumans at a closer level than DC does. Humans aren't just flies and they control a lot of how the Heroes in the marvel universe function. If you have any questions, just look at marvel civil war.

Secondly, the characters. Sure, a lot of the marvel characters aren't as ingrained in our culture as DC characters are (such as batman, superman, etc), but the characters are more believeable. Most of them were just average joes compared to megamillionaires and aliens. I mean, marvel has the Xmen, spiderman, captain america. They're more believeable, they're someone who you'd want to befriend. DC on the other hand, has characters like superman, green lantern, batman, wonder woman, the flash, all of which seem too distant, clark kent hasn't changed friends in years and all the green lanters just hang out with other green lanterns. They seem more "cliquish" as it were. They're only really interested in befriending other heroes.

Thirdly, death. Marvel makes their characters die very rarely. Some may see this as a bad thing, but honestly it's great. It adds more meaning to the death of a pivitol character. I mean, DC has had one incarnation of the flash die with every crisis they've had. It's just expected that a flash will die, so no one gets surprised when "hey, a flash just died." The only characters DC really kills off are unimportant characters. In infinite crisis, they killed superman from earth 1 (or something), but no one cared. Why? 'cause his comic was out of print and no one heard from him since the last crisis. Then, when a character does die, they are quickly replaced or revived somehow. I mean, the second robin, jason todd, died. It was a great moment in the DCU, but then is replaced by Tim drake. he retires, another robin comes, dies, and is replaced by Tim Drake again. And then, the jason todd comes back as the red hood... which stole any importance that his death had to the DCU. Hal Jordan disgraces the whole green latnern corps and goes rogue, he's quickly replaced by kyle rayner. Then, hal jordan dies to save the earth, but guess what? He comes back again... His death to save the world is what redeems him from essentially demantelling the greel lantern corps, but hey, if you know you're coming back, wouldn't you give your life... his death now means nothing 'cause, you know, he's alive. Finally, we have the martian man hunter, now he just recently died and hasn't come back to life yet. But, since DC has ineffectively "killed" so many characters before, I can't see any signifigance in his death because more than likely, he'll be revived before the end of final crisis.

Marvel, on the other hand, takes deaths seriously. It has killed very few main characters, but once they die, they stay dead. Examples are gwen stacy from spiderman. Spiderman's first love died by spiderman's own hands over 20 years ago and guess what? She's not alive. Captain america was shot at his trial and he died. Sure, bucky replaced him, but bucky isn't a carbon copy of the original captain america. He doesn't have the super soldier syrum. So, he's just keeping his spirit rather than his character alive. Sure, it's been only a short time since capt's death, but it doesn't look like he's coming back soon. This adds more importance to the deaths of the marvel characters.

My debate can be boiled down to this:
I prefer marvel because they're more realistic. Their universe is our universe with superheroes. Their characters are more believeable and they are more permanent with their decisions.

I honestly like DC better. I think that there scenarios are much more realistic, or believable, than Marvel. I will fill this in with more info to back this up later, but for now, It's just about 3:30am, so I'm tired as hell...

    Truthfully, i prefer DC.

For the simple reason that i love Batman. Not because of the Films, but because the storyline is rich and dark, weaving between different characters/crossing over into different hero arcs etc. And through the course of the 'Dark Knight' novels (Dark Knight Returns/Dark Knight Strikes Again) that in his latter years he joins forces with other fading heroes in their twilight hour to take down Lex Luthor who has corruptly taken control of America, forcing people like Superman and Wonder Woman to do his bidding.

I will be honest here, that i'm only just getting into the comic universe, so my decision is based upon my current reading and general preference of characters.

This was always my simple take on the two comic makers:

You can look up to DC characters,
but you can relate to Marvel heroes.

I've generally preferred Marvel heroes more for this reason, but I am a fan of Batman.
