Originally, I was going to post this in the Blogs section. However, no one looks there anymore, and this seems like a better section to discuss this anyways.

I'm beginning to see the onset of what I will start to refer to as 'Map Threads Flooding'. The basic etymology of it is that to do so, the reply in question has one of these two things.

    • The poster exclaims that there are no pictures embedded. This is fine in normal cases. However, recently, the amount of people that will consistently go into map threads with no pictures to post this is more noticeable. I'm referring more to the people who like to post 'No Pix' after it has already said; however, some users like to do this repeatedly in broken map threads.
    • The poster complains that there is little interlocking, or lack of it. This is also becoming, more or less, consistent with this day and age. Many users find it easy to grade a map based solely on whether or not it has interlocking. Yes, it's a useful glitch that we can use to make better maps. However, it is by no means a definitive requirement to post a map. I've seen countless times where people are complaining that maps on, say, Standoff for an example, don't have interlocking. Logically, they say, it must suck. It's all and well to suggest that interlocking might make the map look and play better. It's not a prerequisite to making a map.
I'm not at all against people reviewing and commenting maps. However, the practice of this 'Map Threads Flooding' is quite irking, not to mention completely unhelpful at all to the map maker. Yes, he has to embed pictures. Yes, he could interlock his map better. But honestly? With your posting, you're either driving away these potentially great new members. Tell me, do we want to become like Bungie.Net Forums? There, everyone hate's each other. There are little rules against total spam and flaming. We could be like those forums, or we can be a helpful community circulating Forge maps, just like intended.

You are completely right 99% I origionally made the mistake of not putting pics with my map and thought the moderators came down to hard on me. But now I completely understand! And have taken the time to do it properly this time around. If you are posting a map and are proud of it you should want the best presentation possible. What I am tired of seeing is foundry 1 offs that look like it took more time to post here than it did to forge! And those are the maps that get the most views? As for fusing a map can look beautiful with out it take mine for example. I spent a month levating and negotiating objects on Black Out to create a totally unique experience. Just to see it get sent to the back row by uninspired foundry maps! WHA WHA WHAT If you want to see my map its at my home page!

I know how you feel. My map isnt on Blackout, its on Foundry but my most recent map, Fracture. hasnt received as much attention as I thought it would. I spent about 2 months of tweaking and adjustments and testing on it, everyone who's played on it has liked it yet the posted 30 minute forge sessions are getting more attention. It can be very frustrating.

    You're completely off topic....
Actually, you are really a prime example of Nemi's issue here.
Except, in the stead of writing "pix plz," or "moar interlocking," you will write something around 3 or 4 sentences long, saying the exact same thing, just with added filler.
I honestly think you are(merely one instance)of the worst things that have come to Forgehub, along with wave 3, mainly 4 of active posters.
Titmar summed it up perfectly with the word "asinine."
Sorry for flaming in your thread Nemi, I just thought I'd bring it up.

I think you are an example, saying, "I'm the worst thing to come to forgehub". He's saying not be an absolute douchebag to the other forgers.
And what about Public Serevnt, why dont you flame him too.
You could've just said "Hey, you're getting off topic" but no, you have to have a massive ***** about it."

Turbo, try to keep personal flaming to a minimum. And Linubidux and Public Serevnt, could you not cross advertise? Especially not here.

Perhaps I should have gone into the blog idea. Then I could moderate your comments myself.

I now realize just exactly how controversial this topic is, since a lot of people here tend to do exactly what I'm preaching against. But that's not really something I can do much with.

This will be a special rule for this specific thread. Don't target other individuals. Flaming is not okay. If I see you do it, from now on, I'll report the post for moderation.

Sure, I wasn't trying to gain negative attention. I was agreeing with you, but my agreement did include some advertising, so I'm sorry if that offended anyone.

I wish we had some super programmer that had a way to create a filter for stupidity, and redundancy. The problem I find with the maps forum, is that the mods seem to be withdrawing from it a bit(now tell me if I'm wrong here), because it's just getting out of hand, and impossible to control all the stupid **** that goes on in there.

    @Linubidix, you're off topic again.
It's a good point about Public Servnt, but A)he's a newer member, as such I go easier on him, and B) rep is a very good way to tell people about their posts and C)i>I couldn't rep you. ii>I honestly think that you can and should change your ways about posting.
If you, truthfully, and honestly(probably with a little citation too), tell me how often you come back with useful feedback about a map, after playing it, then I will really take back all I have said, I was misinformed, and crossed the line, with said misinformation. But, if you can try to change your ways dude, you are pretty dedicated to this site, and if you could step it up a bit, it would be great.
I'm not going through 700 posts to reap the good stuff.
The last sentence only applies if you don't disprove me.
And please send it in a pm, lets take it out of the thread.

    ::EDIT::
This took me a while to post, I read your guys comments, and I don't think that this counts as flaming.

Just a note as well; this is made to change the way the flooders post, not on flaming them. I made the mistake of doing that once too often; don't let that be you as well.

Bringing up the point of flaming, a lot of threads can get out of hand when some one says that they dislike a map that some one else likes, too much.
If you have ever seen pages 2-5 of Nexn's Lockdown thread, a lot of it is actually an argument between two semi-well known members of Forgehub, it ended up having very little to do with the thread, underneath it all, and was all about one of them being right and getting what they wanted.
People need to use the pm function more, I do to, a lot of things I have posted would've been better served as Pms.

This is something i've been saying for a couple of days in the shoutbox ... i even had a bit of a rant about it.

The new generation of people coming here seem to just spam maps with their 'more pix', 'this is cool, will d/l', 'no interlocking' or some other variation.

I can't understand why they all seem to think that its necessary to post again and again the same thing, even if its already been mentioned. Do they think that having a high post count is cool? Its like the DMV (in Primus' words): Pointless.

I hate to point out peoples names, but Linubidix and Reynbow are good examples of this. I have NOTHING against you two, at all, you simply provide really good examples of my point.

Linubidix displays the 'spam posting' state of mind that has been mentioned, going into pretty much every Map on the first page and posting simple comments such as 'this map isn't up to standards *insert link here*', despite the fact that its already been pointed out about 4 or 5 times.

Reynbow is an example of the 'Moar interlocking pl0x' type, where if a map is untidy or has little interlocking, they post a short flame about how no-one will give a **** unless you make it interlocked.

Both are completely useless to the Map Creator as:
    1. They don't get ANY useful pointers on their map, as the reply is essentially just a short rant about interlocking.
    2. The chances are they'll be scared off from the forums as no-one helped them in the slightest, or gave them helpful direction.

To be honest, simply pointing them to the 101 isn't enough unless you back it up with actual references to parts of their map, pointing out where they've went right and wrong. Granted this isn't possible all the time, i'm just pointing out what i feel are negative aspects for 1: New and Old members alike, and 2: the map forums in general.

I'd like to point out again that i have NOTHING against Linubidix and Reynbow. You were just convenient examples.

I saw this last night escpecially several others and I discussed it in the shoutbox, but I didn't know that it was actually going to be addressed, but I'm happy it did. About the flaming, why? nobody that has posted on this thread has spammed like this, (or at least you are not the people that this is diirected to) the person who I would love to see post here is the person who we where talking about last night, I won't mention any names b/c I'm not sure if the mods would allow that but I sure hope karma gets him

    Proof. Pudding.

Posts like this are what we don't want. There's no content or points made ... its basically akin to spam in the respect that there wasn't really a need for it.

Assa1n, i have nothing against you ... so i'm not intentionally flaming.

I agree with you, but instead of complaining about it, you could spend the time helping newer members and telling them how they should comment on maps, not how they shouldnt. That applies to all of you.

Granted, but there's little more you can do than create a topic and sticky it, which has already been done really. But a high percentage of people won't read it, no matter where it is posted.

And i can just imaging what would happen if we started PM'ing members who aren't posting fairly or whatever, there'd be mass flaming etc (maybe not from everyone, but you would definitely get some hostile responses)...

Actually, I'm finding that this actually applies mostly to the older members. Not the newer ones. The newer one's are easier to get to follow the rules to. The older ones like to stick to their old habits.

Ideally, here's how I envision a properly map reply.
Type 1 refers to a fairly well made map that has a few flaws in it; Type 2 refers to a map that you absolutely despise for it's (insert reason here). Both have fairly helpful tones in them.

Your right Nemi. But we need to be more encouraging of this, making people feel like posting a well constructed reply is a good thing.

We need to make sure people dont start bieng too sensitive though. Try to stick to areas to improve, and not picking out all of the flaws.

Thats another issue ... people are far too sensitive at the comments they receive ... if someone questions their map in the slightest there's a huge stewards inquiry. Again thats not mainly the newest members, who are generally here to be told their mistakes so they can improve ...
