Okay, so basically, this is a fairly small map, inspired from guardian and cold storage. The whole deal with it is that it's placed outside the borders of sandbox (where the guardians shoot at you). Though it is enclosed enough not to get you killed unless at certain parts of the map where it is supposed to kill you. The map has got a larger room in the center and several "corridors" bending around it, kinda like guardian. But you can't see further that to the walls of wherever you might be, as the map needs to be enclosed due to guardians. That's the cold storage-ish part. The floor of the map is mostly the sand im building on, so it's not completely flat, which also gives a whole new feeling compared to other basic sandbox maps. At some areas, there will be a yellow flashing light kinda like an alarm or something. Thats the guardians shooting on the outside of the wall you're behind. At these areas all grenades get a special effect, and that is that they explode much faster. Basically as soon as they come in contact with the yellow light. The history i came up with for the map is that the map is the inside of a flood nest that is surrounded by "something (a.k.a the guardians)" and the map has a kinda claustrophobic feeling, as if you were trapped (which you obviously are) . The map is "messy" in a neat way. It doesn't have these 90 degree angles all over the map and is not completely symmetrical where you might think it would be, and i made it like that with purpose. I can understand if you get comfused due to the pics, its really hard to show with only pics when the map is enclosed (no overview/nothing to relay to) But i'll do better to the real post. pic 1 This is where the red team start. Those two poles are a part of the border to where you will get killed by the guardians. yes, there is an entrance/exit, but it'll kill you. Theres a needler ahead. pic 2 This is where the ringh hand side tunnel leads. If you go to the left here you'll enter the center room. pic 3 This pic is taken from the previous pic's point of view. this is the center of the map. I call this "the dome", and thats just what it is pic 4 If you go left from the first pic, this is where you'll get. theres a sword on the shelf above the ramp that leads to the dome. pic 5 this is there that ramp leads. The sword is above us. pic 6 continue straight forward instead of going to the dome, and you'll appear here. Theres a mauler down there. pic 7 Thats the same tunnel, the mauler's there, and this is the blue team's starting area. This is the room you see straight ahead on pic 3. pic 8 This is where you get if you take a right hand turn at pic 2. That ramp leads to what i call "the bridge" and behind us is "the elbow" (I know the names doesn't make any sence yet, but it will be easier to understand later) pic 9 Lets start with the bridge. This is how it looks when you start walking on it. The bridge kinda bends so it's steep in the beginning and end, and flat at the top. pic 10 This is on top of the bridge. theres an invisibility here, and two SMG's. You can drop down to the dome through a little hole here. The 3rd team spawn up here. pic 11 The other side of the bridge. the bridge "symmetrical" (remember what i said earlier). When you reach the wall down there, just take a right hand turn and you'll be... pic 12 ...here. The exit (down to the right) leads to the elbow and the blue's starting area. pis 13 This is where you come out (below the blue thingy). the left side of the pic is the blue's starting area, and behind us is the elbow. pic 14 This is the elbow. basically a fairly open area sealed by huge curved wall. A shotgun is leaning against the small "tower". This is taken from the "other" sides point of view. Blues starting area is ahead, and red's is behind us. pic 15 This is the "tower" that the shotgun is leaning against. This is where the 4th team spawn, and theres a powerdrain here, which happens to be the only equipment on the map. Right side of the pic leads to the dome, and the left side of the pic leads to the red's side of the bridge and to their starting area. pic 16 This is the dome from 4th teams point of view. This entrance is not on the ground, it's aboge the double blocks toughing the sand (really should have got a pic for this, but i dont sorry). The left of the pic leads red's starting area, the right side of the pic leads to the sword, and even more to the right leads to the blue's starting area. The red/blue rhombus in the roof is the drop-down hole from the roof. Im deeply sorry for the messiness. It's hard to explain when I cant show it all at once, and i'm lacking a few pics. It would be much easier to understand with a movie, I'll try to make one for the real presentation of this map. I still need this map tested, and i would love to get some feedback, so feel free <3 And don't forget that it needs a name, come with suggestions if you like.
This is great. From the pics it looks like a very good well thought out map. I'm planning on making a conquest map in the dunes and this has really inspired me. Very nice interlocking and geomerging can't wait till it's finished
This does look uber sexy, i get what you mean on the messy but neat it really flows well. After looking in that fhd thread on doing a map outside and incorporating the guardians i wanted to do something of this nature but bigger. I hope you finish this soon it looks to be a really fun map for either oddball or just slayer.
Included for dramitic effect. This map looks like a really sweet version of everything I like in a map. Lose either the sword or the shotgun though... From your pictures it almost seems like its a tiny map with tons of power weapons. That is never a good thing, and to avoid a cluster**** you should probably have a couple really large rooms and definately less power weapons. But, the innovative location is really inspiring, and how the map actually interacts with the enviornment is absolutely innovative. I can wait for this to come out!!!
Names: Paleolithic Stone age Metamorphic Igneous... Anything rock based. On topic, or more I should say, I like it and I understand that it is supposed to be messy-ish... But if most of the map was clean and parts getting close to the exit/guardian deathtrap area were messier, I think that would make it just epic... Although the location itself is epic. Hope to see this finished.
I was planning to have only a shotgun and no sword, and im still thinking (thx for feedback) though i don't think that theres too many of a powerweapon, considering most maps have like a sniper, a shotgun / sword, a rocketlauncher, sometimes even a spartan, and lots more equipment and maybe an overshield too, then again, those maps are much bigger. but my point is, theres no use for a sniper, and a rocketlauncher wouldnt look good. I could get rid of the sword and maybe add a plasma pistol or something though, or another equipment. problem is, i cant have a bubbleshield, cus you would be able to escape the map with it, and a reg seems kinda useless on such a small map as there's also a powerdrain on the map. but yeah, you're probably right about the sword, thx for helping me making up my mind <3
