Remake Longest Yard

    Longest Yard

    My re-make of Quake LIVE's Longest Yard. I'm aware that there are numerous re-makes floating around but non of them felt 'right' to me. So I made my own. I tried keeping it as close to the original as possible, but due to Forge World's ability to have only 8 cannon men I've had to make some changes :[

    IMO it plays best with 2-6 people FFA, having 8 people gets a bit hectic, but it's still fun. Haven't tried out CTF or Infection on it yet so any feedback about them would be appreciated.

    Its a pretty nice little lay out.
    Few things I would add are some railing pieces, just for the people without jetpacks.
    The color effect is a nice touch, makes it have that depressing feeling to it.
    What color FX's did you use if you don't mind me asking?

    I used two FXs, next gen and purple.

    I'm trying to keep it as accurate as humanly possible to the Quake LIVE version which is rather rail-less. Though there is railing on the third and some on the second level. Besides, falling off the map is part of playing Longest Yard. I can't tell you how many times I've fallen of it whilst playing Quake xD

    Really enjoyed running around this map, and feels like a pretty faithful recreation of the geometry from the original - one of my all time favourite Quake 3 maps!

    Only real issue I had with is the texture bleeding from overlapped blocks is quite severe and, as a result, distracting (as shown in the last image of your OP). I understand you're limited by the tools available but I think it would be worth exploring some minor alterations to the layout if it meant a better look.

    For example, you could try using the large diagonal bridge piece instead of the five overlapped blocks in this location.

    Also, the map is pretty high up in forge world and takes quite a while to fall to your death. Coupled with the long respawn times, I could imagine it being quite annoying in game. I would suggest incorporating a hard kill zone slightly below the map to alleviate this.

    Otherwise, good job on the remake!
