Hey there GnA peeps, long time no see.

I usually post my hand-drawn anime stuff, but today I've got something a little different for you. During the summer break, I drew Hatsune Miku on paper and for the most part you guys thought it was pretty good. I decided after a few days to have a go at making it into digital form but never got around to doing it.

This has been an ongoing project since then and I started it properly a few days ago after some failed attempts. Several days and lots of pissed off nights when it didn't work later, I've finally arrived at milestone number 1. Simple line art outline. Milestone 2 is to get colour onto it and milestone 3 is to add an awesome background. Ill post them when I've done them. I made some minor changes, mainly to the hand pose and the ribbons around her, making them seem a little more realistic and flow a bit better. I'm still not happy with the hand and will probably change it.

The lines were drawn in Adobe Illustrator CS4 and then exported to Photoshop for the final little bits.

Lol. Okay, well glad you've switched to something new!

I think the old critique still remains however... and that leg is almost as awkward as the arm, although it doesn't quite beat it

Well, good luck, I'd suggest working on proportions/realism

Miku's always had disproportionatly sized legs. If you measure from heel to mid knee, then knee to hip, it's around the same height as her. Ish. I measured it with my fingers.

thus lies the problem of trying to learn to draw by copying anime.

Hmm, that proportions thingy is slightly off. I did some measurements with a ruler, from heel to knee then to hip, and compared that measurement to the rest of her body, they're about the same. You also have to remember her back is arched, giving the impression that her torso is smaller.

I have looked through quite a few different reference pictures and in 99% of them she has longer legs than normal proportions dictate.

I like drawing anime, it's a hobby, I don't intend on becoming an artist of any sort at this current point in my life, you don't need to keep telling me to not draw it.

i think the point here is that people draw anime and then their excuse for why it looks bad is that it's supposed to look bad. (proportions-wise) if you're just doing it for a hobby and dont care about improving your skills, then don't post in a CnC forum... or maybe make a single thread to just showcase your stuff, instead of individual cnc threads? =)

Did you do this with illustrator? Because if you did, you need some serious work at being better at the pen tool.
