Hey guys, my friends band just came out with their new EP. It only has three songs but they're pretty sweet in my opinion. Here's one of their songs, tell me whatcha think.

    YouTube - ‪The Plagued - "Breaking Point"‬‏

Heres their song "Your Pestilence". It's got a sick guitar solo towards the end and finishes with a brutal breakdown.

Comments like "Needs less screaming" aren't welcome here. If you don't like metal then this thread isn't for you.

Edit: Ok it's a year later, but I figured why not add to the thread rather than start a new one. They have a new vocalist which IMO is wayyyyy better, and their quality has greatly improved due to their new producer and his sick studio. Here's their new single, Apex Predator:

Where can I get this EP, or at least sample it? These guys have potential.
The screamer's pretty good, I think his lower growls need a little work though personally. The drumming originally sounded sloppy in parts, but after listening to the song a few more times, I liked it better and better each time. The breakdown at the end is my only real gripe with the song though. It was the only part of the song I genuinely did not like, and I love me a good breakdown too. The rest of the song is pretty good for a debut EP.

I'd have to agree The post above. They sound pretty sick but the breakdown was meh.
2:46 through 3:10 was definitely a selling point for me, I'd have to hear more from them to see if anything about this band is special. Right now they sound not so different than most bands of this genre :/

Whichever guitar was balanced slightly to the left ear at the end of the second was about .20 flat, which is significant enough that someone who doesn't understand music could have at least noticed it was off. I'm not sure if that shows someone who taught themself guitar, or if he was trying to be different, but it was bugging me the entire time.

Other than that, the poke-guitar solo was really good, and the drummer was as well. They were decent, if generic.

They sound like they have potential, but they need to develop their own signature sound. For an EP, its good, but it is very generic, unfortunately. If they get off the ground they need to change their sound a bit, and, while all the instrument work was good, they need to get it a little tighter. I noticed a few times that the drums slipped out of time once or twice, and the solo's were a little sloppy in some parts, but were mostly good. Also, they shouldnt use harmonizers or reverb for the solo's either as it can make them hard to hear. Me thinking the solo in Your Pestilence being a little sloppy could have been because I couldnt hear most of the notes as the reverb overlapped the main sound, but it sorta ruins it a little.

Other than that, they seem like they could go somewhere, and good luck to them.

I am a big fan of metal music myself but i dont really like new bands. The songs sound pretty good but they still need some work.

Skisma, you should move this to the GnA, even if it's your friends work that you're showing off. It's art you want to share with people and get feedback on.

Unless your powers don't work for moving threads, I'm not 100% on that.

musically it is not bad but its just not my style.

    too cookie cutter for me

the typical alternation between metalcore breakdown and fast noodling parts

it sounds like something that could get some traction with the pop-metal crowd (metalcore, deathcore, etc) but as far as my personal tastes go, it doesnt really push my buttons, i prefer more traditional dm and not what i consider a melting pot of what sells well to noobs.

but hey, im a picky bastard about such things.

agreed, it's just too generic. I feel like their influences would be generic too. Where's the balls in those breakdowns. Something to get my head bobbin.

Good idea RST, moved. Anything to say about the music?

And glad to know you think they're at least good, just not quite your preference Tit. I didn't expect you to like it since we hate each others type of metal...lol.

the deeper you dig into metal, the more you grow to appreciate traditional stuff instead of new stuff.
the lack of originality in the new stuff is just ridiculous, imo.
but yea i will shut up and not hijack the thread =P

I like the music & the band but I hate this guys voice. I know it's just screaming but I can't help picturing some guy standing still, yelling with a frown & one eye closed, lol! The music is sick though, IMO. Awesome guitars.

On another note, I find the groups name generic. I had a band in high school (2003) and we named it the plague, lol. We sucked though. Skis, you might look up my last band I was in before I became a Christian. It's called 'First Dead Witness', idk how they are doing now but we were like death metal speed with metal core breakdowns. Idk what you'd call it, we just called it metal, lol.

I used to play with some dudes who tuned by ear and bragged about it. They got pretty close but it wasn't perfect, and you could tell that it was off slightly. I'll be the first to admit that I can't tune by ear (the only ear training I have had properly was interval, scale [major vs types of minor] and chordal training) but I am not afraid to pull out my tuner and sound "better" than everybody else. lol.

...And that's why I don't play with them anymore.

Edit: Just realized this thread is about a year old.... My bad for replying to Reflex's old comment.
