    Legacy

Having recently been getting back into forge I am in the process of uploading my old maps to make way for my new creations. Im terrible for creating a map and then not getting around to posting it up for various different reasons. Legacy is one of these old maps. The map is a blend between Halo 3's Sandtrap and Reach's Hemmorhage. The main focus point of the map is the sandtrap-esque center peice. It also has two main bases and two minor bases located evenly about the map.

Legacy, if you havn't aleady guessed, is primarily a Big Team Battle map. It is however set up for all gametypes excluding Grifball and Regular Invasion.

The map is my first real attempt at a Big Team Battle map. In the past I have created maps which ended up being for BTB but I have never planned to make one from the start, until now. My main focus for making the map was to get it into Match Making for BTB. The current crop of user made maps in that category are not so great in my optinion so I thought i'd try to get one in.

I have drawn heavy inspiration from one of my favourite BTB maps, Sandtrap. The center of the map is strongly based on this. I wanted players to see it and instantly recognise what it is. A strong part of what i wanted to do with this map is to make the player feel at home. There is nothing worse than getting into a map as large as this and not knowing where to find decent weapons and vehicles. I have tried to place select items exactly where you naturally expect them to be. The sniper rifles, concussion rifles, revenants, mongeese(?) and overshield are where they are on Hemmorhage / gulch. The plasma launcher is in the same place as rockets on Sandtrap. The rest of the power weapons and vehicles are in easy to spot places. I hope this setup helps players to jump right in and be able to play a competitive game.

The map has various different weapons in it. There are a number of power weapons to give players on a foot a fighting chance. As the map is fairly vehicle heavy I felt it important to include these. Normally I would choose only one or two power weapons.

As far as vehicles go the map is fairly simple. I opted not to go for tanks and flying vehicles. Tanks were a definate no go area. The number of high up buildings would render the scorpion tank useless. Getting in a tank and then dying instantly is a negative in terms of gameplay so I opted not to include them. The wraith tank is out for the same reasons. Leaving out aerial vehicles was a hard choice to make. In the end I decided they were more likely to lower gameplay than to increase it. The map is setup with playable boundaries that support flying vehicles if you wish to edit some in. Below is a list of the weapons on the map.

    8 x DMR
    4 x Needle Rifle
    4 x Plasma Repeater
    2 x Plasma Pistol
    2 x Shotgun
    2 x Sniper Rifle
    1 x Plasma Launcher
    2 x Mounted Machine Gun
    2 x Concussion Rifle

    8 x Plasma Grenade
    1 x Overshield
    4 x Health Pack

    4 x Mongoose
    2 x Revenant
    4 x Warthogs

I think you brought a very unique take on BTB maps. From the looks of it, the blend looks very natural. Great aesthetics and adequate cover.

45 degree ramps with lights(, which means you have unnatural connectivity between certain areas and that you may get screenlag)

You've got high, protected areas overlooking simple, unprotected bases. May get bad spawns.

    Thanks.

As far as im aware screenlag is not a problem. Ive never noticed any myself anyway. the lights only become an issue when you are close enough for them to appear. from most angles when you are close enough, the center structure is normally the only thing on the screen due to its size.

as far as the unprotected areas go i dont think its an issue. The bases are protected enough to avoid spawn killing. plus there are snipers and teleporters at the bases. The high protected areas are meant to be a refuge from the vehcile combat below.
