It will be available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace in the future. It is said to be best for objective games, like CTF and Assault, but also has some natural deadlocks that makes Slayer interesting and Infection "terrifying". In the Bungie Weekly Update (5/23/08)[2], it was stated that the map takes place on an "empty UNSC space platform", such as an Orbital Defense Platform like Cairo Station from Halo 2. It includes a "...shrine to Doctors Tobias Fleming Shaw and Wallace Fujikawa". This hints it may be similar to the Halo 2 map Elongation. It could also be similar to the Halo: Combat Evolved map, Boarding Action. Information collected from weekly updates about Moonbase Alpha: "As we mention in the Q&A following this, “Moonbase Alpha” now has large opening doors and more unusually, a kind of unlockable jump over a deadly chasm. I’m sure folks will let me know when they play on the Moonbase." —Luke Smith, Bungie Weekly Whats Update Purple Reign is the nickname (or codename) for a map that was announced in the Bungie Weekly Update: 10/26/2007 [1]. This map was originally planned to be in the Legendary Map Pack, but was replaced by Blackout due to the fear that it wouldn't be finished on time, but will now be included in the following map pack that will come out in August of 2008. It has been stated that it will be symmetrical or semi-symmetrical with the middle of the map being higher than the rest.[2] According to the Bungie Weekly Update: 1/4/2008 [3] the map will be an entirely new map. The map is supposed to be full of mid to long range weapons, and from what the update states it appears there will be multiple floors. This map is either based outdoors or inside a Covenant ship
there has been talk that this will just be a single free release on bungie day (7/7) to make up for the price of the previous 2 map packs... i guess it does seem a bit odd to have all of this info for one map and nothing for the other 2 in the supposed map pack....
Inititally i wasnt liking the idea of this map. Then i realised, anything is better than nothing. And if this comes out to be free, i will be very happy. This is probably the best map for Bungie to remake for Halo 3. Not because it was great in H:CE, but because its probably one of the few out of Halo 1 and 2 that fit in with the style of H3. Chill Out was a big map, lots and lots of corridors leaving into big halls. It was one of the best non-vehicle aysmmetrical maps of all time. It wont be for Forge though. There is almost no flat ground to speak of, and i highly doubt any immovable objects.

wow, those teleporters (?) look freakin sexy! Hopefully they change the teleporters in forge on that map to the ones in the picture. EDIT: Do you know what would be freakin epic? if they made a gigantic removable door (like the ones in foundry) that when you remove it in Forge, it opens up into a GIGANTIC square box, purely for Forging, how sweet would that be? think about it

I wonder if they are still going to add the secret room that no one could get to in the first chill out. It was that room behind the glass in the red base.
What Is That Thing In The Tube!? Nemesis!? Then we would have a very long load time for one of the smallest maps on halo 3. Maybe in another map.
Mebbe that could be the secret forge room! You know what Bungie are like with their maps. They're more than likely to have extra bits to load, that serve no purpose. (Outside of Foundry, for example).
Forge-Narnia FTW (really, really, really, really, really......really doubtful though)!!!! I also doubt this will be free, and I doubt its being released on 7/7. I think 7/7 is the unveil day for Moonbase Alpha and Purple Reign. The Legendary pack wasn't all unveiled at the same time, remember. Don't get me wrong, itd be really cool for Cold Storage to be free/released soon, but I'm not getting my hopes up by any means
please don't.... anyway, the modders are gonna have a great time getting the flood out of the tanks they're floating in and just throwing 'em randomly around the map.
QFT I'm highly doubting any movable blue teleporters. I am also highly doubting any immovable objects to speak of.
that will be fun. I like how the flood has gotten to it. It also kind of looks like the inside of one of the bases in avalanche, but thats just me
