EDIT: I have released a special gametype for this map, download Execution Gears from my fileshare, it has no jumping, unlimited sprint, and it has 1 life per round just like execution from gears of war. Welcome to my remake of one of the best Gears of War maps, Jacinto. Jacinto was originally released on Gears of War 2, and was re-released on Gears of War 3 with a few changes. My version is a remake of the Gears of War 3 version, I tried my best to get everything down to scale and very similar to the original Gears 3 Jacinto. I couldn't get the spawns close to normal since I ran out of pieces, but it doesn't affect the game play. Anyway, it is symmetrical just like the original Jacinto and the weapons are as follows. x2 DMR x2 Needle Rifle x4 Plasma Grenades x1 Sniper Rifle 180 sec x1 Rocket Launcher 180 sec x1 Shotgun 180 sec x1 Plasma Launcher 180 sec The plasma nades take place for the Gears 3 frag spawn, the plasma launcher takes place for the mortar spawn, rocket launcher for boomshot/hammer spawn, the shotgun takes place for the ink/incendiary spawn, dmr's for the boltok spawn, and needle rifles where the gorgon's spawned on gears 2. The sniper rifle spawns where it originally did on Gears 2, in Gears 3 there is no sniper and the spot where it was has digger/torque bow spawn. Anyway, that will be confusing to anyone who hasn't played gears. Here are some screenies of the map. This is where the blue side spawns. This is where the sniper rifle spawns (originally the digger/torque spawn in gears 3). Also a view of the plasma launcher. This is where the shotgun spawns (originally ink/incendiary spawn in gears 3). Also a view of the rocket spawn. This is the underpass, right below the sniper spawn. Connects to shotgun room. This is where the rocket launcher spawns (originally boomshot/hammer of dawn spawn in gears 3). This is where the plasma launcher spawns (originally mortar spawn in gears 3). This is where the plasma nades spawn (originally frag spawn in gears 3), this is the red side. Each side has one of these towers. This is the backside of the plasma nade tower spawn. A useful health pack too. This is me killing someone with a DMR head shot in the underpass. It was satisfying. This is me getting a double kill with DMR head shot's from the plasma nade tower. Even more satisfying. Thanks to anyone who tries my map and appreciates it, constructive criticism is always good and if anyone wants to play or forge maps with me, add AstronoutFarmer.
I have never seen anyone make a remake of this map in gears of war 3. How long did it take you to pull this off. Did you use another TV and xbox, take pictures or was it all from memory? I don't understand why your map is floating, the edge of your map looks a little wierd. Add a wall or something that makes it look better. Anyway, good job with your remake.
It a few days to complete, I used my memory at first to make the initial blueprints and then I just watched youtube videos of Jacinto to get things down to scale and such. It is floating because I didn't think it really mattered. I left the edge without a wall because on the original Jacinto there is no wall there either, and I ran out of pieces anyways. Thanks for the good job too.
I've dabbled in remakes for my entire forging career as some of you a well aware of. I used to be a hardcore Gears player, at least when it game to the first one since the second one left for a lot to be desired when it came to the online multiplayer (terrible netcode). I have tried recreating quite a few maps but one hurdle that is impossible for anyone to overcome is the change of gameplay between the two games. Being able to jump through a window or over a piece of cover that is not meant to be traversed will destroy the integrity of all Gears remakes unless a lot of liberty is taken to make sure it works in Halo. Simply being able to drop down from the towers or drop down onto that landing pad completely changes the dynamic of the gameplay often times for the worse since the original design of the map was never meant to support such movement options. I hope you take the time to analyze which areas need to receive some changes if you ever wish for this to be more than a remake. Its one thing for a map to be remade from a game that shares gameplay of Halo like Unreal Tournament and Quake among others but Gears maps make a poor transition. The map itself is well forged but it just cannot play well in Halo unless a Gears gametype is played and even then its not the same. If you chose for it to be a strict remake keep this comparability issue in mind. I advise you to adopt the map into a modified design so that it can still keep the essence and general layout of the original but made to work better with the gameplay we have. I'm sure everyone would prefer to have a map that plays well with the normal gameplay than one that clashes with it.
I have taken what you said into consideration. I added a railing to the sniper spawn to prevent drop downs (which means you need to redownload the map), and I have added a custom game type. The game type is Execution from gears of war. No jumping, unlimited sprint, and 1 life per round, just like gears. Try it out now.
This is just false. Halo has different gameplay than Gears, but that doesn't mean that a Gears map would play poorly in Halo. It simply means it would play differently. Jacinto would play quite well, I would think, with all the LOS obstructions and multiple paths offered in the Gears 3 version.
The towers become even more overpowered than they were in Gears. The simple fact that there is much more freedom of movement due to the player being able to jump changed how the map plays drastically. Sure there may be a map or two that doesn't play terribly but the gameplay is so far removed from what the map was designed for it is hardly ever the case that the map plays the same or better.
Considering the fact that there is way more grenades going around in halo, it probably balances out since you can throw nades up there. But as I said, I've provided a gametype that was meant to be like gears so that you can't jump, and you receive infinite sprint and no radar. Its execution rules. If you want the game to play like gears, just turn jumping off, sprint only on infinite, and no radars, unless you really want them. That will make this map more gears like. Also was considering making a remake of Blood Drive, that map was always great. Or maybe Azura, I think Azura would play fun on halo, but I might not have enough pieces.
