Obviously, I'm not the only one with this problem... Okay, I am trying to fix my sister's computer, as her iTunes keeps crashing every time she tries to sync her ipod touch. After it crashes, a little bubble comes up saying that it was closed due to Data Execution Protection. Clicking the bubble results in some bullshit about the program trying to damage the PC. There is a way to turn off DEP for individual programs, but to no-one's surprise, it doesn't let you do it for iTunes. I've tried changing the settings for DEP to automatic. I've tried completely uninstalling every piece of apple software and reinstalling it (excluding Safari, and I was following instructions on the website linked) and reinstalling them all. I'm now trying to install an older version of iTunes. But this is the last thing I can think to do. Everything else I've tried has failed. Any help?
Isn't DEP from programs using up too much memory? How much memory does her computer have (RAM memory). You could try opening up task manager, then going to processes, then finding itunes and right click and set it as a high priority program. My guess is that your sister has way too much music for Itunes too handle on her computer. I'm not entirely sure but trying what I said and answering my question can't harm anything
Haven't tried ytour suggestion yet, although it sounds like a good idea, but her computer isn't around atm. It has 3GB of RAM and a 1.8GHz Celeron processor I believe.
A couple of my programs also had this problem. Here's a fix if you have vista. Disable DEP in Vista: 1. Click Start 2. Click All Programs 3. Click Accessories 4. Right Click on Command Prompt 5. Left click on Run as Administrator 6. Click the Allow button if it asks you for permission 7. Type or copy and paste this into the command prompt window: Code: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff 8. Hit enter and you should see the confirmation: Operation Completed Successfully 9. Reboot and DEP should be off.
This might work, but it depends on what OS and type of the program. If the program is an alternate bit format (32 bit program on 64bit OS) this'll work, if it's not, Vista will blame it on DEP even though it might not have anything to do with it.
K thats plenty, not the problem then. Disabling it is dangerous. It helps stop viruses etc. DEP is to stop programs from using to much memory, programs such as viruses that damage your computer. Not recommended. Find the exact problem and fix it, don't put anything at risk.
