Hello, With the release of Halo 5: Forge on PC, i'm really looking to start Forging a lot more. I am new to forging, so there are many things I need to learn. I love to make map layouts for different games, and Halo 5 is one of them. My main problem is, I'm only really good at the layout part of a Maps Creation in Forge. The parts I struggle with are creating the Map's Design/Theme and Lighting. I've tried for weeks to get my head around lighting, and I just can't do it. I think learning on multiple maps from an actual forger with me in the lobby will really help me get my head around it. As for Map Designing, I have ideas for what designs I like and would like to try and implement into my maps. The problem is, again, I struggle using forge to create my ideas. What I'm getting at, is, from people that have forged for a while. Would you're opinion be, to carry on independently and keep slowly learning new parts to Forge, or, look for a team of forgers which I can use my layouts for them to add their designs and lighting skills? I want to be as independent as I can. But I just feel like my Map Design ideas don't do justice for what I want my map to look like, as I'm quite the perfectionist. But would other forgers want to put their map designs on my layout? Anyway, thanks to anyone who responds and shares their opinion. -Impure
Design =/= Visuals Map/Level design is the overall process of making your map. What you mean by design is most likely called artpass inlcuding aesthethics, theme and other things, which define the visual aspect of your map. I'm just saying this, since you might get confused in the future, if someone talks about design in general. I can recommend this glossary @A 3 Legged Goat made a little while back: http://www.forgehub.com/threads/forge-glossary-of-terms-and-phrases.151544/ Back to the topic: I think Forge is pretty easy to learn, however sometimes it's better to call help for minor things, in which other people are more experienced in, like scripting for example. So yeah, I would say, experiment a lot and at the same time share thoughts with other forgers and get yourself help, if something would take way too long to figure out. Just take the shaolin monks as an example. They learn from their masters and by watching their fellow people, but the biggest part of their training is focued on their own effort. Don't ask me, how I got to the shaolin all of a sudden. ^^
Thanks for the correct terminology! And yes, I'm going to look at the aesthetic design of the map myself and experiment with different types of themes. I have an idea of what I want it to look like, but i'm just going to spend a week on fully focusing on the aesthetics. As for the lighting i'll take your opinion on asking for some help from someone who is good with lighting in Forge. Might aswell learn it now so I know it for future maps. Thanks again.
