“I’ll tell you stories of a better time, in a place that we once knew…”
Prayer of the Refugee - Rise Against

    Childhood innocence, once preserved.
No need to think of the approaching curve,
That brings new lives and different friends,
And no way of knowing, how it all ends.

    White snow, dark night
    Bleak trees, strung lights
    Slick ice, crisp air
    Boyish pranks, scented hair.

    Gather round for a photograph,
To capture these faces full of laughs.
And to look back in later years,
Because now the laughter’s turned to tears.

    A click, there’s the shutter.
A memory saved, and off we flutter,
Back to our games we go, in the cold, nippy snow.

I’m cold and hungry, let’s go inside.
What to eat, I can’t decide.
But wait! Here’s what we can make,
    A mouth-watering chocolate cake!

Now we all have gone our ways,
    And sometimes, on lonely days,
We look back at memories past,
And think of those memories that will always last.

At first i wasn't gonna post this, but i decided to anyways.. not my first crack at writing poems, but this isnt my best...

unfortunately my constraints for this one was to make it use the 5 senses of imagery, and assumedly fit on one page.. so here it is...

we were to write about a scene or thing.. i chose to write about a friend of mine's birthday back in '07, thats my most prominent memory i have of this group of friends before we all fell apart and went our separate ways.. tears were brought to my eyes thinking about it, but i really feel like i didn't express it in the poem. maybe i will write a new one.. but totally free-verse etc.
