ICARIAN Even after the carrier's conversion to a battlefield, combatants insist on getting airborne. Do you like Rocket Hogs? Ones that fly through the air? Maybe not the safest idea, but a bold move with a big payoff on Icarian, a symmetrical map suited for slayer and objective gametypes and built with a stunt racetrack in mind. Deft drivers can hit jumps to get them pretty much anywhere in this map, and there's plenty of opportunity for splattering and other vehicular carnage. Though Icarian is equipped for multiteam with 6 sets of initial spawns, it's arranged with 8v8 big team slayer in mind. The two bases are three-tiered structures, with a garage and rocket hog below, shield door protecting an objective area at the mid-level, and a turret and vantage points on top. Those who prefer a flashy entrance can send a vehicle flying from the center ramps with a chance of splattering unsuspecting campers. Intriguing uses of geometry and lines of set allow for both adequate cover and complex firefights. Though the map is made to be driven, there's plenty of opportunity for combatants on foot to score some points by rushing the center laser or landing a well-timed hammer blow to the side of a warthog. From ramps for jumping and turns for skidding, there's plenty of opportunity to show off wheelman skills here. With forking paths that allow a player to benefit from a little inertia, the map allows for fast-paced drive-bys and speedy get-aways. Icarian is a massive map with a wide open upper level and a snaking underground complex with a gauss hog reward for whomever can get to it first.
