So I have a couple of maps i want to release that are 4v4 maps. 1st, does anyone else notice a huge drop in framerate in their maps. I have about 1500 objects, so I may have to take some stuff out to make the map run correctly. 2nd. How can I get a group together for testing. I work a lot, but I do have next weekend off and I'd like to test them then. 3rd. I don't have a pc at the moment so I was wondering if there was a way I could save screenshots and upload them when I release the maps. Also, how do I make a video showing gameplay? I'm sure this is not the first time these questions have been asked but I really appreciate any help. Thanks guys
1: I'm not familiar with frame rate issues so I'm not sure how to deal with them, but somebody else may be able to help. 2: There are some regular testing lobbies hosted by certain people http://www.forgehub.com/threads/forge-cast-week-of-july-11th.152946/ This lists lobbies for this week. You can follow the links to the lobby posts to see what requirements there are for getting your map tested and to see how the lobby works. If you want to get your own group together you can always make a post for it and try to get people to come that way. 3: You can save screenshots and game clips by double tapping the home button and pressing "y" or "x". I use http://xboxdvr.com/ (which is a third party site BTW) for downloading my screenshots which I can then post here. There are some other sites you may be able to use though. I'm not sure how you would go about making a postable video since I've never tried. To get HUD-less screenshots you can use theater or machinima controls and take the screenshot then.
To add to what Rabid Hogs said, once the pictures are taken in-game, you can go to XboxDVR.com to view them. But you can also download them to your phone, and ForgeHub supports uploading pictures to posts/map threads from your phone.
Hey Chase, Frame rate drops typically happen when there are too many objects on screen at once. And if you're at 1500 objects... The good news is that the game won't draw objects that are completely blocked by other objects/geometry. So wherever you're hitting frame rate, park your spartan at the laggiest spot, and reduce the objects in view. Rinse and repeat. Also, invisible lights, though invisible, have also been known to cause visual lag. Try removing some of those to see if that helps. Good luck!
Hey thanks guys I'll definitely look into the Xbox dvr website. That'll help tremendously. As far as the testing goes, I'll have to make another thread and see if people are interested. Maybe I'll do that on halowaypoint as well. And yeah ill have to see what I can do about deleting someobjects. The way I have it built now is there is a purpose for every location and I don't see the map playing as well if I did delete it all. Maybe some aesthetic changes. I'll have to play around with it. Thanks again guys --- Double Post Merged, Jul 17, 2016 --- Would you suggest fixtures as opposed to invisible. Some of them are so high up that a fixture wouldn't be practical. I sometimes use them to light a large area. I guess im woneeding whether a few, big, invisible lighted areas are worth the object tradeoff of many smaller lights to achieve the same effect
Fewer lights to cover an area, and work your way up. It might be gorgeous as it is, but quality of gameplay should be top priority.
