My inner nerd is coming out once again because I proposed this same idea back in Halo 4 and nothing came from it (because it was Halo 4 of course). So here I am again on a new account wondering if this maybe has a chance in Halo 5. Anyhow, the idea I am proposing is: PRO BENDING (or a variation of some sort) What is Pro Bending? Well it's a fictional sport originating from the tv series The Legend of Korra, a spin of from the famous Avatar: The Last Airbender. In this universe, there are certain people in the world that can manipulate the elements of water, earth, fire, and air. And in the timeline of Korra, a particular sport was invented based around element "bending" as it's called. It's a pretty realized and fleshed out sport. There's an actual rulebook you can find online that gives even more insight. It's essentially a mix of boxing and American football. Two teams play on a large raised platform above a tank of water. Each team uses their abilities to knock the other team back as far as they can, eventually knocking them off the back end of the ring and into the water if possible. The team that covers the most ground at the end of the round wins the round. Win two out of three rounds and you win. I always presumed this could be pulled off in Halo somehow and I think Halo 5 is looking pretty solid. The only way I imagined you would simulate the bending powers is to give everyone a Hydra. And the Hydra I think is an interesting enough weapon that it would be neat if there could be a fun game associated with it. It would probably work best in Breakout, although Strongholds would give you the ability to have the different territories on the field. But Breakout has that cool moment at the start when your team jumps onto the arena. But I digress. So I don't know if I'm exactly asking that someone flat out re-create Pro Bending from Korra, but I think the idea is there. You could make it into a sort of Sumo-type game with Hydras. I should have probably mentioned that I am not a forger by any means. I used to think I was good back in Halo 3 where I would literally just make a cannon that shot golfballs into the air. But the things the the forge community make are stunning. I wish I was as good as you guys. Anyway I'm just throwing out an idea that probably only I would find cool, but lack the prowess to make. If anyone else was a fan of Korra or Avatar and knows how to forge, it may peak your interest. But anyway that's all.
Any gametypes can have a running start from spawn. You just have to set up the initial spawns to have running starts. Works in slayer, strongholds, you name it.
That is definitely outside the box. I'll try to think about it some. The game settings let us control the knockback settings some for things like a Spartan charge, grenades, ground pound, etc. Finding weapons that will work from a distance will be tough, but the hydra is a good thought. Being able to block would be nice, but I'm drawing a blank, other than using a switch to raise an earth wall. I'll keep thinking.
The hydra is just my first thought. I don't know if knockback can be altered for guns though, so that would require some testing. I'm pretty sure at some point warzone weapons will be usable in forge and customs, and I'm not positive but there may be a unique hydra that does better knockback. I'm presuming if this game mode is possible, a strategy would be to focus all fire on one player at a time to get the most effect. If you wanted to really emulate the zone system, I'm pretty sure the main thing you would need to have is one-way invisible walls, which don't exist.
I think the invisible blockers only block players, not gunfire or grenades, so those could be useful. We can also script them to push players to fall back a zone. Oh, I see what you're saying... Players should be knocked back a zone and not be able to get back. We can also use gravity volumes to keep players in the air longer. Or cheat by setting off explosives to knock people back. Or some other junk. I think I can make something that will work using scripting. Or more likely I can make something that nearly works but one thing blocks me from completing it.
I like this idea a lot. However, I think it would work best if players couldn't move, and only get moved by the weapons. This would make sure no shenanigans happen, and would also encourage shooting teammates to keep them alive, as well as shooting enemies to knock them off. First team to knock off all players wins a round. Not exactly like Probending, as you don't take territories, but it's a variation of the concept.
I found something very similar a guy made: In his version, pushing a team back requires killing them with grenades, where they then respawn one zone back.
That's friggen sweet. A working new game mode for Halo. That's what I'm into. I'll have to congratulate Dr Sammy D and see if he wants to work with me on stuff. If you wanna try to use his map and settings as a template, we can try to skin it as a Pro Bending dodge ball variant and add attacks that are more like bending. It'd be great if we were able to pull off somehow making three types of attacks. Even better if they represented earth, fire, and water. Even betterer if they had a rock, paper, scissors thing.
I don't know how possible it is to have a variety of ways to go about attacking the other team without having one way be better than the others and so on. The general idea of the game was just to knock each other back by any means possible. Having one player per element was just so that the show had variety. Also gameplay-wise I don't think it would make sense to try to restrict player count to 3 per team like the show. It should be open to any assortment of players.
