My thoughts: If you can't make fun of everything, then you shouldn't make fun of anything. People being offended by others' humor is what's started more than half the fights in the world. If people didn't get offended by the 'fried chicken stereotype' (which isn't offensive at all), then no one would care about it. If you just treat it as normal, then people would realize it wasn't offensive. By treating it with special care, you're giving credibility to the poster's point of it being racist/stereotypical. Discuss.
I agree whole-heartedly. People shouldn't be restricted in terms of comedy, although, some things really do cross the line. Satire & sarcasm make it hard to determine this. For example: The people in the WTC were important to nobody. Not funny, sarcasm, and just flat out crossing the line. I really couldn't think of a good example, but I think, maybe, this portrays what I am trying to say. Some things, are just over-the-top.
"The people in the WTC were important to nobody." That's not even an attempt at humor though. That's just idiocy. Sure, someone might find that funny, but overall, it's not a humor-based statement. It's not really relevant, in my opinion.
Yea its kinda like the gay rights thing i personally think that people would be more tolerant of homosexuals if they didnt bring so much attention to it. People jst bring more attention to themselves and make them look bad whether if its gay rights or offensive jokes making a big problem ou of it will oly make things worse.
OMG!!! Someone shares my views. However i apply this to words in general. Words only have the meaning we give them. If we treat cus words as normal, yippie they're gone
Meh, it's just pointing out how sarcasm can truly be offensive to some, even though it's meant as a joke. Like I said, can't really think of a good way to put it.
How does that saying go? If you can't laugh at yourself... If it is all for good fun and not hate, it's fine imo. For instance, I'm white. People say white people can't dance. I am not offended.
I agree. I am asian, and I experience life through widescreen. This is true. I don't mind asian jokes, but if I do make any jokes regarding race or whatever, I stick to things that pertain to me. Eh, stepping outside my race is like an unknown to me; I don't know really what will offend and what won't. But that's why I only talk with people who aren't easily offended. Otherwise, there's always this cloud of "political correctness" that hangs over me.
