Forgive me if I seem a bit panicky right now but I think one of my maps that I have been working hard on for the past week vanished into thin air. When I go to Forge to select the map the name of it is still there but whenever I select the map name it picks a different map. I can see the map on the list but it won't let me select it! What is going on? Please tell me there is a way to fix this, I worked very hard on this one and was getting ready to test it.
Go through all your maps and see if it shows up under some other name. Check your recent files especially carefully - if you worked on it recently at all it may still be there even though it's overwritten with a different map in the local files. That's about all you can do - good luck. I had this happen before and was lucky to find it in my Recent files.
Hmm... If you have a copy in your fileshare, download it from there, otherwise try to find it on B.net. I feel your pain and I'll try to help the best I can.
Looks like it's gone. I've rebuilt much of it from memory (took me a long time last night) and it's coming along. I have a couple pics in my file share for it (people at b.net were curious). I will go through and see if another map I have turns up with it...you never know I suppose. Oddly enough, though, when I was rebuilding last night I think I made a smoother version of the map anyways lol. It's just getting aesthetics again that will be a pain.
The exact same thing just happened to me last night. :'( I was working on a BTB map, switched over to another map, and the second map overwrote the BTB map. What sucks is that the "Temporary History" only displays maps that were selected in Custom Games or Matchmaking, not Forge, so I couldn't find it anywhere. What's really odd though, is that I found a Saved Film of myself forging on the overwritten map. I saved that, but it's just the film - which requires to load the map in order to play, right? - so it seems like the file is still intact somewhere. I also found something interesting when I went to the Dashboard and looked at the files themselves in the Memory section. Map A had overwritten Map B in the game, and in the game I saved Map B as Map C to see if that would work to recover the map (hint: it didn't). The file details showed that Map A was ~88 KB, and Map B was ~120 KB. Two different maps. But Map C, the map copy of Map B, was ~88 KB. So Map A = Map C. I think, somewhere in the depths of my Xbox, Map B is still intact, but every time I try to load it, it loads Map A instead. Quite a conundrum, and I really wish we knew a way to bring these maps back from the dead. :/ But I won't stop trying. If I find a solution, I'll be sure to make some noise...
This happened to me all last week. I was hosting a customs party and could not change gametypes or maps. I was stuck on the random one it gave me (from my files, but not the one I wanted). I couldn't change it. I suggest you just wait it out, because mine is working fine now. Also, I think it only occurs when XBL is connected. The files are still on your Xbox but they are inaccessible for the time being. Some glitch.
@ Titan. I noticed the same thing on my harddrive with the file sizes. @ StarFighter. I'll keep the original file that appears to be corrupted and see what happens over the next week or so. May not matter, I've rebuilt the map already and I'm setting up gametypes lol.
