I don't know if I'm allowed to ask this here but I wasn't sure where else I could ask it. I am a newbie with photoshop and am just self-taught so I need a little help. I am trying to make an image that has a car busting through a sheet of paper. Here is the image of the car I have been using: I have attempted to do this by myself and am wondering if there is a better way to get this effect? Here is the image that I have created. I just used the pen tool to make the shape of the "ripped paper" and then just played with the blending options to get the shading. Please let me know what you think I could do to make this better? If this is in the wrong spot please move this to wherever it should be. Thank you.
I made a similar image of the F-35 tearing through paper... The trick is to use a texture that looks like paper for the background (not plain white... it needs to be more realistic), and to use sample images of torn paper to achieve a more realistic effect. Unless you are really good with the pen tool, it would be very difficult to make realistic torn edges by hand. Also, the angle of the car is not ideal for this particular effect because you really need a more direct view so that you can realistically wrap the paper around the car. Also, if you are making a car pop out, it might be good to have a surface for the car to pop out onto... Edit: The lighting is also inconsistent... Don't use a drop shadow for the shadow of the car, instead use a brush and paint the shadows by hand, it looks much better. Also, the light source is currently different for each torn edge of paper... it should probably have a single light source. Also, the edges need their own shadows as well.
