Averatec - All-in-One Desktop with Intel® Atom™ Processor - D1130EA1E-1 My dad is looking for a new home computer and Hes really "Dutch" when it comes to money saving. This computer is a good $100 off and I thought it might be a good reccomendation. Thoughts? I also found this computer, which one do you reccomend? http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=brcwa1p&c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04
The customer reviews for that product are fairly well received, especially for a brand that hardly anyone knows about. Also, you should note that they said it was loud and did not come with Office (MS Word, Powerpoint, etc.). However, for the price, it seems like you found a pretty good deal on a computer that's not too bad on the specifications. Still, look around some more and if you come across anything else, read the customer reviews. From there you can pretty much determine if the computer has any hidden problems. =)
Alright thanks. The programs aren't a huge problem because he uses Open Office which is free, but yeah I read the reviews and there was that one guy that complained about the sound... Maybe he got a bad one? Either way, its cheaper than the computer he has now, and better.
Expand the RAM to 2g if you can, and I'd say you have a good deal. Now days 1 G of Ram is hard to live with...
Depending on what you do truthfully, if it's a family computer 1GB should be fine. I like it, good specs, great reviews. I would still say to look around though, maybe find a better one.
You're buying a desktop with an Intel Atom? Just buy a netbook. Same price and its portable. Just make sure you have a Core 2 Duo or AMD Phenom/Athalon.
I don't see the point in paying money because of a 'state of the art' processor that is designed to be small, when it isn't very good anyway. Your paying more because it is small. You may aswell get a notebook for the same prices, as Nitrous said, or buy a regular desktop with a good dual core processor. You could probably get one custom built for the same price at the most. The Dell sounds like a good deal, but they have different offers every week. When i got my laptop i waited for a good few weeks, and luckily bagged a range of deals that fit me perfectly, and saved about £200,
Never trust Dell prices. After all is said and done you get an extra 200$ worth of "fees" tacked on. Go to a bestbuy and get a computer (NO GEEKSQUAD PURCHASES EVER!!!).
I really have no knowledge on what computer is best. My dad, from what I know, can go from $300-400 spending on the computer. I just want to know what would be the best for the family.
Well... You don't want to get less than a 2Ghz processor these days. If they say it's a dual core, then your getting close to twice the performance capacity in most cases. If you can get a 2.2 or a 2.4, you will see a considerable boost to performance. 1 gb of ram is sufficient. Unless you plan on doing some intensive media rendering or other heavily intensive processes, you'll never need more. A better processor is more important, because in most cases that is the first instance where your computer will reach it's limit. A good keyboard and mouse is quite important, but i doubt you'll get good standard ones so i would consider investing in better ones. Ubisoft make fantastic sets for about £20-30. Also good Speakers is a must and you can get pretty good ones for a similar price.
