What's the best thing about Dutch compared to German, other than the fact that German just sounds ugly imo (No offence LD and other Germans in here), is that most people actually don't understand Dutch Dus wat ik hier zeg kunnen jullie lekker toch niet verstaan! xD
I think they sound very similar REM, and I may not be able to understand everything, but due to the fact that they sound so smimilar, I can at least guess what you said I have friends in the northern part of germany, and most of them are able to speak dutch, because there are very few major differences between the northern german dialect and dutch. I'm from the south though, so I have less problems to understand the swiss and the austrian.
I'm just learning German because I moved to Austria... I can't wrap my hear around Viennese dialect though. Bam oida.
